Thanks to the Celtics, Mavs, and Nets for forwarding these to me.
1. Who do you think will MVP?
I’m putting my money on Jerry West... he’s been that good and keeps getting better so he’s due this year.
It has to be Jerry West, right? I mean he's obliterating Kevin Durant's long-standing single season scoring record by over 2 PPG.
Jerry West. He’s just too good and will probably win the MVP for the next decade.
Pretty obvious Jerry West will win it easily and he will probably win another bag of MVPs before he retires, only way he’ll slow down is if Rog gets bored and trades him, so don’t be suprised if West is wearing a Spurs jersey in a few Seasons.
It has to be Jerry West right? He has been amazing all season long. I would bet he wins it.
2. How has the cap in the league changed things in your opinion?
It’s been kind of weird watching the ripple effect over the last few seasons since it was announced until now. Teams were bracing for it and clearing books, then everyone went nuts and there was a flurry of activity. Now we’re in a pause where everyone is kind of sitting on the talent they acquired and not making any trades unless it’s a fire sale or a lateral player swap. It also happens to be fantasy football season, so a lot of teams are coasting at the moment, it I expect more activity to come back soon, now that trading is more manageable when there’s cap room to play with.
Honestly I think the elimination of the soft cap has actually made trading more difficult. The unintended consequences is that it seems like teams are less likely to make deals. At least that seemed like the case this season.
I like it but I am surprised it hasn’t led to more trades. Personally I haven’t really needed to upgrade much so I haven’t been active on the trade market. Not sure if the cap has anything to do with that or not. I’m hoping we institute the 1yr max rule and it should make it even better.
Hasn’t changed it hugely however I don’t think its raised the level of trade movement as much as some GMs expected it too, tbh I think its lowered it, a lot of GMs have preferred to use up as much cap as possible leaving very little room to make trades without hitting the HC, I was personally against the change and to this day my opinion hasn’t changed.
To me nothing has changed much, maybe I wasnt active enough to see the difference, but it seems the same for me.
3. What are your thoughts on trading? Does it seem some gm's always get deals or is it just hard as is?
Sometimes GMs do get deals into trades when the seller is frustrated or bored and wants to rebuild. Otherwise though it’s definitely still a little tough, unless you have a good relationship and baseline of trust/respect with the other GM and have mutual interest in the foundation of the deal. I generally only get deals done with the same 5-6 GMs because our negotiating styles match up and we can chat it out.
Teams are always going to be looking for what they think are the best deals for their team. League perception might make things seem like some teams always "get the great deals" or teams always make a bad deal, but at the time the trades are made, teams are making what they think the best deals are for their teams at a given time.
Yeah I expect the same teams to win most trades, the same ones to lose most and then the same ones to not respond or make any trades. I wish we could replace the non-trading ones who also always seem to be at the bottom of the league with active GMs who would contribute more to the activity of the league. Trading is a bit tough because everyone wants a good deal. Most can usually find a good deal from a tanking team so there’s no need to pay full value for a player elsewhere. A little off topic, but I’m in favor of penalties for bad teams.
Its not very difficult to trade imo but I think some GMs rather just build their own players up instead of giving up assets to bring in talent elsewhere, also I do think the level of talent has dropped off a little bit too and that there’s not as much top tier talent otb as previous Seasons, that and also the level of activity from some GMs has dropped off as well
I think here it is hard, but that goes for every league. It also depends if somebody just wants a player and will give you what you ask for. I think it is harder rather than easier.
4. What are your plans for the off-season and next year?
I’m playing it by ear at this point. I do want to retool at the very least around BJ Boston, if a full rebuild remains as tough as it is with all the tanking teams. Making the playoffs is fun and having a high impact young player to camp is my favorite way to play FBB, so I’ll probably try to shed salary and try to play FA over the next few seasons and see if I can build a competitive team.
I need to make a one year run to make my pick less valuable, and then really crank up the rebuild. This year has not gone the way I had expected it to go as far as won-loss record, most of which is because Skinny Johnson decided to have a career year at the age of 35.
Probably retool. I’m over the hard cap and will probably look to move one of Schmidt or Cousy. I may move both and do a bit of a reset if I get the right offers. I will probably still be in the playoff hunt but will likely take a step back unless I get really lucky.
Ill have around 24 million to use so Ill aim to sign some legit depth while not overpaying but also locking in some players on long term contracts. Miki will be difficult to bring back but Ill throw him an offer since its the right thing to do but I do plan on letting Mirza start next Season, so should be a interesting offseason
The offseason the plan is to resign my players, hopefully they dont want too much money. Next season it will be the same as it was this season. Try and compete. Will probably lose Yardley which will suck this upcoming season.
5. Who are the two teams in this years superbowl after the first 5 weeks?
Patriots and 49ers. All the points would come from the defense and running backs ironically despite an obvious Brady vs Jimmy G grudge match.
I mean it has to be the two undefeated teams, right? Patriots and 49ers. I mean, I would have said the Patriots regardless in the AFC, but even though the 49ers are the other undefeated team in the NFC, I think the Seahawks are probably the more complete team in the NFC right now.
I’ll say Chiefs vs Packers. I think the West is wide open. Could see Dallas, Philly, LA, Seattle, SF, NO. I like the Packers defense this year tho. As for chiefs, Mahomes is unreal and fuck the Patriots
I don’t follow the sport so I can’t comment but Im going to assume whatever team Tom Brady plays for will be up there?
I think the Packers and Patriots make the superbowl. They seem the most balanced and have two great QBs. I hope my niners make but this weekend will be a big game for them.
6. Name two hobbies that aren't around sports and why?
I still love video games (and board/card games) although it’s probably to get out that competitive edge. Otherwise I like to read the when I find a good book.
Music and video games. I'm always listening to music, even at work, and I'm playing games, whether on my computer, my phone, or my PS4. If it's my PS4, it's always gonna be a sports game.
Wood working and playing with my kids. That’s really all I have time for outside of work, fantasy football, NBN, and family time. I’ve gotten into wood working a lot the past few years and starting to sell some stuff locally.
Guess Gym, Video Games and Reading are considered hobbies, most of my time Im involved in something thats related to Sports so it is kinda difficult to think of some not involving it. I enjoy going to the Gym because its a great place to get away and get all the stress out and also keep fit, Video games because there are actually some decent games out there even the angry 12 yr old gamer kents fk the experience up for those trying to just chill and play, Reading well because I was talking shit and wanted to sound smart
Im not sure what this is asking maybe Im just to high, but I think im naming 2 of my hobbies that arent around sports I smoke weed i guess thats a hobby, oh and I am a professional ass eater. Known for tossing the best salads in california.
7. Name three retro players you are excited about? (doesn't have to be in current draft classes, can be in future)
I always struggle with this because I missed a lot of guys along the way when I’ve quit off and on and missed chunks of time, but I want to see a reincarnation of Michael Jordan, since he was only around for a few seasons before retiring. Otherwise I don’t remember seeing Brandon Roy, but if he existed that’s just another one on my list of missed guys... and I’m definitely excited to see Earl the pearl coming up soon!
Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Julius Erving.
Magic and Larry are easily #1 and #2. I don’t really have anyone else I’m super excited about. Magic should be like Oscar on steroids. Larry should end up like a Schmidt type of player who is always fun.
Bird, Magic and MJ. I wasn’t a massive fan of them irl but I think these 3 will be a lot of fun to see in a league like this with higher ratings then the average league, Id love to see Shaq but recycling players would be rather pointless
I cant wait for Patrick Ewing. My all-time favorite Knick wont be for awhile but he should be mine. The next person would be Larry Bird, another favorite of mine from earlier on.
8. Name three of your top books you have read, are reading, or are looking forward to reading? (A series can can't as one, like Game of Thrones kind of thing or LOTR)
My favorite series growing up was the Hobbit/LOTR story. The books had a lot of substance to them and had an edge on the movies, despite them doing a great job translating to film. Harry Potter was another huge part of my life, because they were just great all around. And lastly I’ve off and on followed a series based off a book called Enders Game. It’s a book I read as a kid that just kept going and I have always enjoyed reading them. Books about war and Sci Fi and politics but in such a captivating way that it’s hard to put down.
Well, I don't read nearly as much as I should (I don't even know the last time I picked up a book to be honest), but I enjoyed the entire Harry Potter series. That was probably the last set of books that I read.
I don’t read very much and if I do they are always sports books. My 3 favorite books are Moneyball, Bill Simmons Book of Basketball, and I think it’s called NFL Draft or Draft Day. It followed the Ravens through their draft process like 15 years ago.
I tend to lose interest when it comes to reading, after a few pages I get side tracked and then lose interest all together, Im losing interest even answering this
I really want to read the Game of Thrones series because I was a huge fan of the show. My favorite book I have read was The outsiders, just a good overall book. And I guess another good one was Rainmaker by John Grisham. Solid book I really enjoyed it.
9. Marry One, Fuck One, Kill One and Why? (Beyonce, J-Lo, Katy Perry) Must answer, don't be a B
Marry Beyonce, fuck Katy Perry, Kill J-Lo. Tough one because I would want to keep Katy as my side chick because she’s super hot and crazy, but Beyonce is just next level and wife material. JLo is a tough kill but If is this was late 90s/early 2000s JLo wed be having a different convo.
Well I'd fuck J-Lo, because she's probably the wildest one in bed. I'd marry Beyonce because fuck, she's talented, beautiful, and loaded. I guess by default I'd have to kill Katy Perry, but she's probably my favorite singer of the three.
F- J-Lo, M- Beyoncé, K-Katy Perry. Killing Perry was easy. The other 2 was tough. Beyoncé is younger tho so I’d rather marry her than J-Lo.
I wouldn’t marry either of em, marriage is a load of shit not going down that road again, Ill fuck Beyonce then use the same bullet to kill the other 2, jlo is too old unfortunately, 10 or so years ago Id be all over her, I don’t do chicks with short hair so Perry gets no dick unfortunately
This is easy, Fuck Beyonce, Marry J-Lo, and kill Katy Perry. The why should be obvious, Beyonce and J-Lo could swap, but J-Lo hasnt aged in a bit and would love to fuck multiple times. Beyonce is beyonce so theres that and who likes katy perry? Not me bye bitch.
