Does he have all his other picks at least? Yes. This upcoming draft was the last one I didn't have my pick. So I will be able to rebuild starting with next year's draft.
For everyone saying it was five non-lottery picks, allow me to explain. My pick next year will be at the top of the lottery. The first two picks in this draft are the first two just outside the lotto, so it's not like those don't have value as they are the first two G-League eligible picks. Getting my pick in 2022 back was the jewel to me because I'm selling off everything and building from scratch, so I fully intend on this pick being at the top of the draft (top 3).
With Whiteside and DeRozan not re-signing (which I expected they wouldn't), it was the perfect time for me to decide to rebuild. Denver was the only team I would have traded AD to in order to get my pick back. While I will have a ton of cap space now this off-season, I won't be using it (this year) in order to work on building my bank for my picks the next few years.
Yes, the 29th pick won't have much value other than being on my active roster. And yes, I'm aware the Nuggets pick next year probably won't have much value other than the same value of being on my active roster to allow my team to suck and keep my 2023 pick high up in the lottery.
I am taking a long-term view with this build. Keeping AD was ultimately going to only prolong the inevitable. Sure, I could have made a one-year run to make next year's pick worth crap and taken the chance that AD would re-sign next year. But I would rather take the long view, suck in 2021 to give our 2022 pick the best chance to be at the top of the draft, and then work from there.
Drag me if you want, y'all have been doing it for nearly 50 seasons. I don't give a shit at this point. Y'all can say you'd have offered this or offered that or I should have gotten this player or that player, but the truth of the matter is there was only one team I was willing to deal AD to, and I'm rebuilding this team the way I want to.

lynchcats👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Respect My man. I don't know that I agree with the deal- Actually i disagree with the deal because AD stays in my division, but I respect that you're doing what you feel is best and not being swayed by the hate and external comments. Hopefully it works out the way you want it to. I can see other points of view on this trade, but if you're happy with the outcome 🤷🏽♂️. Good luck!

You don't realize that you could have got your pick back for much less than this and then traded AD elsewhere - or traded AD to another team for much better youth/picks and then used that to trade for your picks back. Didn't just have to bend over to get your pick back LMAO.

Lmfao dude gonna be shit for the duration of the league, but at least he has his conviction! Well that's his decision. Don't get me wrong it's a 💩 deal, but he's doing him. he's stood by his bad deals, and if this trade works out he can take 1000% credit for a great deal.

Yeah like i would have given away his pick Unbelieveble how many pm s i got for that 1 st He only had AD left and sure, it wouldnt have been a top 5 pick but defenitly fringe lotto. He had no assets i would have taken for his pick and would he have traded AD for youth and picks Then his 1 st would have become even more valuable for me

He could have easily flipped him for good youth and pick(s) and not worried about getting his pick back then If he tanks and falls in the lotto to 4/5 then it's gonna be a shit player anyway prob so could have gotten better value just moving it for a stud younger player Alas we know he is a WOAT tier GM so he obv didn't even entertain anything of that nature
