With Free Agency approaching, I thought it might be interesting to see if Loyalty, Greed and Play for Winner affect where Free Agents eventually sign. I'm in the process of compiling data on the last FA signings and comparing where players signed with their LGP ratings. Needless to say it's tedious but once my curiosity is piqued about something, I generally don't let go until it's satisfied. lol What I would like to know from the league's GMs is how do you think those ratings affect FA signings? Have you been in a league where a study like this was done? And if so, what were the results? I'm adding a poll so that everyone can vote based on their experience, anecdotal evidence, etc. Let's see if the eye-test matches my study.

I think it has an affect on resignings, but not free agency.

what about players that have a "home town" I've never heard anyone bring that up before nor do I have any idea that the developers intended it for anything other than information. Since it's not a number, I doubt it's included in the algorithm that determines signings.

I'm sure it affects resignings. Not necessarily in free agency, because it seems FBB likes to sign large one year deals over long term contracts, which really seems counter (to me) to what a person would really do (if the long-term contract is a fair one).

Home town might be the local team when he was growing up. It might affect the signings, if he wants to play in his hometown, like Lebron in Cleveland for example.

I think it has an affect on resignings, but not free agency. If i remember correctly i offered mashburn a contract that was a couple mil higher than the offer that he had accepted this year. The team he signed with ended up being the original team he played for, just didnt resign until FA came along. So i am kind of in the same boat here. I like to think that folks will sign for more money elsewhere, unless they have high loyalty and were on a winning team.

I voted a moderate effect, as I don't think it plays a big factor on big long-term contracts, but in regards to retaining players on middling contracts/the exceptions...I think that's where a big factor is played! In my experience, the elite winning teams benefit from their success & unless there's a significant overpay are able to retain their own/have their pick of the litter on exceptions. This is especially true if their competition is a lesser team, even if the lesser team offers a little more money for the given players services. Just my thoughts.

would be nice to know i am also curious if adding a inch or 10 pounds to them also makes a difference.
when i had a league i made a C who was 5 foot and 110 pounds and he was still getting over 10 boards a game

I think sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Just like Francis leaving me no sense as he went to a team that was not winning and also took less money. Then I have mashburn who had high loyalty and took less to sign back with me. I just think it depends on the situation. But I can not really say yes it does and no it doesn't.

i have won free agents an lost free agents with all kinds of different ratings, even ones with killer loyalty that i offered max 7 years at 12.5 raises, only for them to take less somewhere else...so i do not think any of it matters... #burnttomanytimes

Ok, decided NOT to do an article on this...just too many variables and too many click/copy/paste/sorts. I will say that based on what I was able to get through, those ratings have little to no affect, even on re-signings.
