Cedric Ceballos
Ceballos had a career riddled with injuries, but was a good player when healthy. In 1992, he even won the dunk contest with the legendary blindfolded dunk. In any season that Ceballos participates in the NBN dunk contest, he will be able to add +2 to any rating (excluding potential). If he ever wins the dunk contest, he will be able to add that original +2 to any rating, but will also receive +5 potential. These must be posted in the spending thread.
Pervis Ellison
The first overall pick in 1989, Ellison's career was truly defined by his injuries and even received the nick name "Out of Service Pervis". Ellison wants to prove that he is worthy of a top pick in the draft and will reward the team that gives him the opportunity. If drafted in the top 8, Ellison will receive equal parts rating and potential, depending on where he is picked. For example, if taken at pick 6, Ellison will receive +6 to any rating of your choice (can be split into multiple ratings) AND +6 potential. In addition to this, for every season during his rookie deal where Ellison plays 75+ games, he can add +3 to any rating of his choice. All must be posted in the spending thread.
Matjaz Smodis*
Somewhat of an unknown, Matjaz comes overseas to the NBN in the shadow of fellow-international Dikembe Mutombo. Don't let that distract you from the fact that Matjaz was a baller throughout his euro career that included mulitple all-stars and MVP awards in various leagues. Smodis wants some respect put on his name and will reward whatever team gives him that opportunity by working extra hard in the one season that he is overseas. If drafted in the lotto, Smodis will be given 2 (paid) improvement camps (no supercamp) of your choice that do NOT count towards camp history. In addition, in order to prove that he can score the ball, throughout the entirety of his rookie contract, every time Smodis goes to a camp, he can claim a free +1 to his inside regardless of what camp he goes to.
Michael Irvin
Irvin has become an offensive phenom for Miami, but he's someone who thinks he's the best in the world already at 19. Although his coaches have loved his enthusiasm, they also question his effort at times, as he lags on defense, often giving up and showing no care to defend. Although his offensive game is very polished, his main criticism is what holds him back from being one of the top prospects. Irvin can be mentor camped by any SG with a all defensive or defensive 2nd team, even if they do not have an all star game appearance. If he is mentored by an all defensive team player (either 1st or 2nd), he will be eligible for the DPOTY boosts to his mentor camp. Additionally, if he is mentored by an all defensive 1st team member, any other camps he goes to during his rookie contract he will be eligible to double the defensive boosts of the camps at double the cost of the camp.
Tim Brown
In a draft that is historically terrible at PG, Tim Brown has the shot to be the best in this class and has the drive to be great. Brown was an all-around star in college and even played a little QB. Brown knows in order to be great at PG in NBN, he’s going to have to handle the ball well. If drafted in the lotto, Brown can automatically claim +5 handles and +5 passing. In addition, for every camp he goes to on his rookie deal (excluding team camps), Brown can claim an additional +2 passing and +2 handles for free (can only be claimed once each season - ex: can’t claim twice when he goes to 2 improvement camps)
Billy Donovan
Donovan is a players coach through and through. Whatever team drafts him knows that his skills won’t help much on the court, but the rest of his team will be rewarded when he gets an opportunity. For every game throughout his rookie contract where Donovan plays 20+ minutes, he will stay extra hard afterwards and help a teammate out by giving them +1 to any rating of your choosing, excluding potential. Billy can give out a max of +15 throughout each of his first 3 or 4 seasons (depending on where he is taken) and each player can only receive a max of +3 per season.
Karl Liimo and Martti Liimo
Karl and Martti are brothers and are fortunately coming into NBN at the same time. While both of them are solid players, they each have some serious flaws that could hold them back from becoming legit contributors. The Liimo brothers have played together on the same team their entire lives and want to continue doing that here. If at any point throughout their rookie contracts they played together on the same team, they will work extra hard. Every time Karl is sent to a camp that improves any aspects of his defense, Martti will get +2 added to his jump shot or 3 pt shot (your choice and cannot be split). Then, every time Martti camps either his jump shot or 3 pt shot, Karl will receive a +2 to his per D, post D, drive D, blocks, or steals (your choice and cannot be split). They essentially will give their brother a free +2 for every camp they are sent to. This can only be claimed by each player ONCE per season, meaning if Karl goes to the jump shot improvement camp x2, Martti can only receive +2 and not +4.
Kenny “The Jet” Smith
Kenny is a older draftee after playing 4 years for UNC and went on to have a successful career winning 2 NBA championships. Although he’s probably better know for his illustrious broadcasting career. In his 2nd go around, he wants to be more known for his basketball ability. He’s used to playing with some of the all-time greats (MJ-UNC, Hakeem-Rockets) and knows he has to hit the ground running due to his age and what better way than to learn from the best. If Kenny is mentor camped his rookie season, all gains including add-on will be doubled.
Doug West
Doug was originally selected in the 2nd round to the Wolves as part of their inaugural draft. He played there for 10 seasons and was the last remaining inaugural draftee. Loyalty is something that he’s accustomed to. If West remains on the team that drafted him for the length of his rookie contract (4years for 1st round, 2 years for 2nd round), he will offer to resign for 7 years at league minimum to display his gratitude to the franchise that drafted him. If he resigns, he is eligible for a supercamp in the first year of his new contract free of charge and of camping history.
Harvey Grant
Harvey’s twin brother Horace was selected #14 overall to the Celtics in the 2044 draft. In the NBA draft Horace went #10 and Harvey went #12. Harvey has often lived in Horace’s shadow and is used to being one upped by his brother. Scouts have told Harvey that it’s extremely unlikely he will be drafted ahead of where his brother went last season. If Harvey is drafted in the top 13, he will be ecstatic to finally have something over Horace and will reward the team that drafts him by working extra hard to show it was deserved and get three free +3 to add to any rating. If Harvey is drafted after #14 then he’ll want to prove to his brother that he can be better than him. Anytime on Harvey’s rookie contract that his team beats Horace he’ll get a free +1. If Harvey out rebounds or outscores Horace in those head to head matchups he’ll also get an additional +1 (can earn +2 if he outscores or out rebounds and his team wins for each matchup)
Ron Grandison
Ron comes in as probably the worst prospect in the draft. C inside as a PF and C+ defense in rebounding, capped off with a C in potential. It'd be a miracle if this guy played an NBN minute let alone get drafted. But, what does sound interesting is a SF with a C+ in rebounding, and if Ron has any hope to be a professional basketball player, he's going to need that adjustment. Ron can be mentored camped as if he was a SF and if he does, he can not only double all the boosts he gains from the camp, but he can also permanently change his position to SF, along with adding a period next to his name so he can back up SG.
Chucky Brown
Chucky Brown holds the NBA record for most teams (12) and in the alternate universe we call the NBN, Brown's looking for a team to be loyal to him, so much so that his motivation to grind will continue to grow every year that he finishes with the same team. So, if Brown sticks with the same team for multiple consecutive years over his rookie contract, said team will reap the benefits:
1 Year With Draft Team - One Free Improvement Camp (not on camp history)
2 Years With Draft Team - Two Free +2s to any non-athletic/potential rating
3 Years With Draft Team - Two Free +3s to any non-athletic/potential rating
4 Years With Draft Team - Two Free +4s to any non-athletic/potential rating
Elden Campbell
Elden Campbell came into the NBN Draft process feeling pretty good about his future path after coming off an All-ACC appearance as a 19 year old but after being left off Rog's 'Draft Hierarchy' tier list, there may be some doubts in terms of what his ceiling is. Campbell has leaned heavily into his nickname as 'The Janitor' in pre-draft interviews as a player who will grab boards and play defense, promising All-Star level productivity with the correct mentorship and growth through camps as long as he has a few veteran teammates that he can learn from while on the court. Over his rookie deal, if Campbell finds a way to play 60+ games in a big rotation that includes a current/former All-Star or All-League big man, he'll be eligible for an extra improvement camp, free of charge and camp history requirements. This is only claimable at the end of the season (after Sim 24) and said All-Star/All-League big must be on the roster at the time of this note being claimed.
Kevin gamble
Kevin legally changed his last name so he can represent what he's most passionate about in life: gambling. He hopes which ever GM selects him feels the same way, and that's why he's willing to play high risk, high reward to be the best. If selected in the lotto, Gamble can be sent to a special camp at a cost of 1000. In this camp, a random number between 50-100 is generated. This number is Gamble's new true potential. Next, Gamble can also gamble during his regular camps too. For each camp he is sent to, you can pay 500 to roll a number between -5 and 5. Based on that number, Gamble can add it to the total of each stat camped. So if he was to get a +3 in a stat, based on the roll, that +3 can be anywhere between -2 and +8.
