2024 Free Agency wasn't something we will talk about as a year that changed the landscape but i did wanna go through and give my honest opinions on some of the pickups Teams made this year.
DAY 1
Knicks sign C Nic Claxton $225,000,000 over 5 years
Grade C : I was very hard on this trade and still think the contract is ugly. Year one isn't going to be an issue but i think come year 3-4 of this deal we may see this backfire. His outside scoring went down after TC too so that may effect his FT ability and drop his scoring even more. I'm curious to see how this turns out because i myself was after him but for around 8 mill less in year 1.
Pacers Sign SG De'Anthony Melton. for $54,796,038 over 3 years.
Grade C- : This one was also a bit odd to me, Melton had an Ok last year being a serviceable backup but only averaging 9.6 per 34 mins isn't gunna cut it for 18ish mill a year. His inside and outside both dropped 1 so i dont think the GM is too thrilled about this contract right now.
DAY 2
Trailblazers Sign PG James Harden for $22,500,000 over one year.
Grade B- : 1 Year deals are always nice, Harden is a good player who can serve as a stop gap PG but also can be nice trade bait. Not a bad move at all here.
Magic Sign SG Buddy Hield for $50,000,000 over 2 years.
Grade B- : Another typical deal like Hardens but Hield is younger so the 2 years makes sense. Great scorer and will be a nice contributor to the Magic.
Spurs Sign PF Pascal Siakam for $162,435,000 over 4 years.
Grade C : Do i love this deal? no but i don't hate it for the Spurs. Siakem is a great scorer at PF and put next to Wemby you can hide is Defensive and rebounding flaws. I think he's overpaid but that claxton contract may have had something to do with this signing. At the end of the day the Spurs are young and can afford this type of deal.
DAY 3
Rockets Sign SF DeMar DeRozan for $24,378,891 over one year.
Grade C : Another eh deal, I like Derozen but he's an average scorer this late in his career and not a great rebounding SF. Again the 1 year deal doesn't hurt the rockets and could possibly be traded if it doesn't work out. I just think he could have gotten him for less here.
DAY 4
Raptors Sign PG Markelle Fultz for $45,000,000 over 3 years.
Grade B : I really like Fultz and was after him to a very similar contract before we signed tucker. Good handles and a great defender who can score buckets from time to time. 15 Mill a year for a 26 year old PG is not bad at all.
Pacers Sign PG Immanuel Quickley for $68,962,000 over 4 years.
Grade B- : Another guy i was after, Quickley is a solid 1-2 backup but may serve better as just a primary Sg. His scoring is solid and he brings decent defense to the table.
Lakers Sign PF Bol Bol for $56,031,625 over 4 years.
Lakers Sign SF Otto Porter Jr for $8,000,000 over one year.
Lakers Sign C Goga Bitadze for $51,721,500 over 4 years.
Lakers Sign SF Derrick Jones Jr for $7,000,000 over one year.
Grade C : I was hoping to get these guys and was able to snag them all for solid depth purposes. The c grade is based off their poor TCs, Bol Bol lost defense and rebounding while Gogo dropped in rebounding. I also sent Silver D Jones and meant Damien jones but he signed me Derrick jones so overall these are just very average moves by me.
Wizards Sign SF Deni Avdija for $33,100,000 over 3 years.
Grade C+ : I like this deal snagging a young SF for cheap over the next 3 years. Sure he was hoping Deni Jumped a bit in TC but you cant argue the contract here.
