Child sexual assault. Father on daughter. We all thought he did it. Evidence was circumstantial at best. Beat cop that took her initial statement did it in his cruiser, him in the front seat, mom wasn't separated, they were wearing masks so he had no idea if she was coached. Lead investigator never talked to the mom or the daughter, only interview she saw was through a forensic interviewer that she observed and was able to direct questions if she wanted. She never stepped foot in the house of the alleged crime. Prosecution seemed unprepared. I was the foreperson and the room was probably the most emotionally charged room I've ever been in, lots of tears, lots of emotion. We ended up a hung jury. Worst fucking thing ever. You aren't supposed to consider it this way but the choice was: 1) Not guilty when we thought he did it. Send her back into the home and embolden him. 2) Send a guy to jail without any real proof and bad police work. The defense attorneys were so fucking scummy. When the victim testified they made the dad sit directly facing her when he was sitting on the side of the table for every other witness. Shit was no fun. I wanna redo and more fun, less stakes case.

First time that i was in the jury pool, it was similar to the case you described. It was the step dad instead of the biological father. I didnt get picked but the void dire was an enormous pool of like 50-60 jurors so there were enough questions to glean the details off of. I was happy that I didnt get picked. I wouldve been miserable. The victim was under 12. Who does that? How fucked up do you have to be? I looked up the case later. He ended up being acquitted. But yeah i just felt bad leaving the room knowing that she probably did it. We did our job correctly from what they advised us to do, but it is a crappy feeling

I never looked back to see if they retried him. I really did think he did it but like you said.. reasonable doubt was raised just enough for me to say nah, I don't think I can convict.
