Mutombo is truly one of the greatest defensive big men to ever step foot on the court. He is famous for his finger waiving after blocking shots 10 rows up into the stands. His career high was 9 blocks in a game! Offense wasn't his strong point but he also contributed on that end and in only two NBN seasons had an incredible 93 double doubles. He was also dominant rebounding both offensive and defensive. He co-leads the NBN's game record for rebounds with Arvydas Sabonis who both had an amazing 30 rebounds in a game. While his tenure in the NBN was brief he left a lasting impression and was able to help the Warriors go deep in the Western Conference playoffs. In his first season the Warriors made it to the Western Conference Finals only to loose to the eventual champion San Antonio Spurs. The combo of Dikembe Mutumbo and Alonzo Mourning should go down as one of the best big men combos ever. He is also known for his contributions off the court. Mutombo was recognized in former President George W. Bush's State of the Union address and he's also the only two-time winner of the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, given for "outstanding service and dedication to the community." While he thinks he has the credentials to earn Hall of Fame induction as a player, Mutombo acknowledges that he'd like to gain entry to offer inspiration to underprivileged children in Africa. I voted yes to help African children.
Edit: changed my vote to no. Although I do want to support African children after reviewing his overall numbers again I don't think they HOF level.

Yes, one of the all time greats on the defensive end - didn't do a ton on offense, but wasn't useless either. Also worth noting that his 30 rebounds came in a regulation game while Sabonis's 30 rebound game was a game that went to overtime.

This is a real tough call for me. I'm going to say no, although the #'s on the defensive end are awesome, the fact that these #'s are slightly inflated due to the early stages of the league. The shooting #'s offensively are hard to look @ as well. While he absolutely altered the game on the defensive end, there are just too many players that are posting similar or better overall #'s & will carry a more HOF worthy statline (have the offensive game to match defensive prowess). I just have a hard time sending guys who only effect one end of the floor. If we had a few more seasons of data to work with, he'd have my vote to get in. When you have to compare him to the David Robinson's/Shaq's/Mourning's, even Scot Pollard/Marcus Camby/Big Z...I just can't justify sending him in.

Voted no. I think his value was huge in this league, as the Mourning/Deke combo was incredible, but you've got to do something great if you only have two years, and Mutombo just didn't do that

I'll say yes. I once owned Caldwell Jones in the IBA for many seasons. He ran similar stats from a rebounding and blocking standpoint. If Mutombo carried out this success over the course of 6-7 seasons I'd want him in the HOF like I would with Caldwell Jones in the IBA 1.0 version.

It's a shame we didn't see him go around for a few more seasons. Seriously strong rebounder and blocker.

tough one to decide...
reasons for a yes vote...
he is most likely one of the best defensive players that NBN has seen those first 2 years an i do feel like he could possibly make it on the merits of his rebounding an blocked shots, also he most likely altered a bunch more shots, an most likely he held down the opposing player he faced, him scoring 11-12 ppg was just a bonus also because he was never on the scoring list as far as i know of...also he helped lead the warriors into 2 playoff runs, once with the best record in NBN, an i do not think the warriors would have been as good with out him for sure...
the reasons for a no vote...
his scoring 11-12 ppg most likely was the result of his offensive rebounding put backs, so to me that was a result of just his great rebounding, not anything else special, an for him just to have a .413 fg% with all of those put back attempts is terrible...also he averaged 2 turnovers a game, again that looks to me to maybe be just the result of poor ball handling with his rebounds as the ball surely never went through him offensively...also he never made any all-star team, nor any all league team, nor any all defensive team...
so with all of that being said, i am going to have to vote no as to much of his positives are taken away by his negatives...

I say no. To me he is better than robinson number wise but his scoring was too low for me to say yes.
