The 126th nominee is the very underrated Kody Perry. Perry was a guy who looked like nothing special but always manned championship caliber teams from the point guard spot. Was he just that good and is a true Hall of Famer or did he ride the coattails of better players? Lets take a look.

Arguments For Induction
- Awards wise kind of light, he was part of two All-Defensive Second teams and was playoff MVP in one of the Warriors title runs. However, the Warriors won two titles with Kody Perry as their starting PG, the most important position in the game. He also went to one other finals and was a sixth man for the Pacers when they won their title a couple seasons ago. Incredible.
- I just want to comment on Perry's overall career before going into specifics, because its his best case overall. Like I said he won three championships as a key piece. He also won 217 player of the games(1/6 of his career while constantly playing on contenders) as well as 3 Player of the Weeks and 1 Player of the Month. A third of his career(392) he grabbed a double double as a point guard. He finished 25th in games, proving his durability. He finished 70th in points, proving he was a good scorer. He finished 15th in assists, proving he was a good passer. He finished 11th in steals, and we all knew he was a great defender. And he finished 90th in 3 pointers. Plus 54th in triple doubles and considering how many games he played, not even coming close to the turnovers leaderboard is insane.
- First and foremost, Perry was a legit true point guard. He averaged 7.5 turnovers, and had a career 5 to 1 assist to turnove ratio. That is good in a season(thats 10 assists to 2 turnovers, going higher, FYI), let alone a career. In his peak he was always averaging 8.5 assists or more and always under 2 turnovers a game, if not under 1.5. Like I said, truly an elite pure point guard.
- Perry NEVER had impressive ratings, at all whatsoever. It was always crazy to watch him do what he did with the ratings he had. However, the one elite rating he had was A+ defense almost his entire career. Not only did the rating show it, his stats did too, as well as grabbing 2 All-Defensive 2nd teams. In his 15 years where he started, he never averaged under 2.0 steals per game. Literally every single season of his career he had more steals than turnovers, which is the ultimate goal of a point guard. He led the league a couple seasons in steals as well. He also pitched in nearly half a block a game for his career as well proving he was well rounded.
- Offensively, he wasn't just a passer game manager either, he was a solid scorer. Despite showing B- B+ or B B+ most of his career scoring wise, he had seven seasons over 20 points per game in his career. Again, he finished 70th in points all time, a testament to both his scoring abilities and his ability to stay on the court as well. All that reaching and he didn't have foul issues, all that length and he played 15 years at a high level. Insane. Also he was a solid shooter overall too, shooting higher than 45% from the field in most seasons to go along with his 82% plus free throw shooting.
- You just look at those accolades and then look at the entire picture and it almost feels automatic. He did everything you asked including shoot the ball well and rebound it decently. He won titles playing the most crucial FBB Position. He did everything you could ever ask a guy to do at the point guard spot, and his team succeeded for him as well. Just no way you can let a guy with his career rankings, his pedigree slip through the cracks, right?
Argument Against Induction
- Obviously if you've ever read me write about these guys you'll know his awards are way too light, even if they show a guy who was a great defender. Just not enough, especially for a point guard in FBB. You just can't with those awards.
- There is an actual question for me, would the Warriors have won more titles with a better point guard? Did he hold those teams back despite his great stats. He played with legends like Josh Jackson, Jordan Toles, Leon Volagis, Brook Lopez, Sergey Karasev, Robbie Hummel. Hell even DeMar Derozan and Steven Adams were great for a couple seasons with the Warriors. Did Perry make the engine run or was it an old, reliable engine that could get you from point A to B but wasn't winning any races? Not sure.
- He had his serious flaws too that actually you can point to and say this held the Warriors back at times. His rebounding was pretty bad. His three point shooting left a ton to be desired. It was clearly what he lacked with the rating he constantly carried. Guards in FBB should never shoot under 40% from three and Perry shot 38 percent from there. That is stupid rough.
- The overall picture just shows a game manager right? Low turnovers, could play defense, didn't hurt you otherwise and wasn't statistically dominant. Can you induct a game manager into the Hall of Fame? I guess we'll find out pretty quick.
Vote carefully, and remember to throw out arguments regardless of which side you're on. This should be a discussion that eventually gets the league to the proper decision on him. Your vote can also be retracted after it's been cast if you feel like switching to the other side based on the arguments that have been made. To be inducted, a player needs 70% and to be considered in a later class they need 50%. Vote carefully.
***BONUS - Don't forget that everyone who votes gets $25 and the person that makes the best argument or contributes to the discussion the best will be awarded an extra $25***
