Not everybody played their best players or their best rotation/DC, but this is going off the 1st preseason sim that we have had.
1. Vancouver Grizzlies
- The Grizzlies posted the best record in the league at 7 wins and 1 loss. Hard to argue they were not the best team in the preseason. They also posted nearly a +17 ppg differential in this sim. The Grizzlies are led by one of the bets frontcourts in the league. Stokes, Twyman, and Lovellette are very productive and scary. They combine for over 36 rebounds a game while all averaging over 21 ppg. Their only weakness that I can see that is glaring is at the point guard position. Everrett Case is capable, but nothing special. His upside is that he rarely turns it over, but that could be because of the lack of usage in the preseason. Even if they dont make any changes this season they look to be title contenders for this season and the long haul.
2. Indiana Pacers
- The Indiana Pacers posted the second best record, 6-1, but also have a larger per game differential than the Grizzlies. The reason they are number 2 is solely on the fact they didnt play enough games. The pacers are led by their Dick. Dick McGuire is their leader and doing so from the point guard position. Averaging a double double with points and assists and still turning it over less than 2 times a game seems like a good guy to be running the show. It also helps to have one of the best scorers playing next to him in Paul Arizin. This guy is a scoring machine and does it efficiently. Both of their bigs they start gobble rebounds up nicely both averaging over 14 a game. If I had to put my money on a team to win it all it would be the Pacers from the looks of it.
3. Minnesota Tomberwolves
- The Timberwolves come in at 3, but look like a contender as well from this sim. Their record of 6-1 doesnt look like a fluke, but are built a little differently than both teams above them. They have scorers at every position. The 3 perimeter guys are amazing, Dort leads the way followed by Milkvy, and Demarco. Demarco isnt very efficient, but takes care of the ball so that definitely makes up for his faults scoring the ball. Dort looks to be a top 2 guard in the league with his scoring abilities. Just needs to take care of the ball a little better. I project this team to fall off a little bit, but not much by the end of the season.
4. Los Angeles Lakers
- The Lakers roster does not look as deep as the top 3, but they do have a star on their roster. This team starts and stops with Elgin Baylor. Does he look like the best Forward in the league? After this preseason he does. Averaging outrageous numbers like, 37 PPG, 10 RPG and 4 APG while shooting 54% from the field. He can make any team an instant contender with a little bit of talent around him. They have enough to be in the thick of things, but I dont believe they have enough to actually compete unless they add some more pieces around Baylor. Sam Jones is definitely a good start, but they cant be complacent with what they have. I think adding a big that complements Baylor well is key in their growth as a team and franchise for the future.
5. Los Angeles Clippers
- The Lakers are not the only team to be excited about this upcoming season. The Clippers posted a 6-2 record in preseason and seem to be in the thick of things competing as well. What a time to be alive in LA. The Clippers are a way more well rounded team then the Lakers though and will probably finish above them when the end of the season comes. Led by a trio of 20 ppg scorers on the perimeter and defensive beasts down low this looks like a typical FBB championship team. Castello looks to be the real deal at PG and his backcourt mate is no slouch either. Bobby Mcdermott one of the most efficient SGs in the league will look to carry this team offensively with the help of the veteran Calder as well. Their froncourt is loaded with rebounding and shot blocking bigs makes this difficult yo put them at 5, but they did lose 2 games and it is only preseason. Look for them to be in the running to represent the west in the finals come June.
