Small Forward
1. Elgin Baylor, 27
Elgin is probably the 2nd best FA in this class. He’ll be entering FA during his prime and should get the 10yr veteran max contract. He’s not the most efficient scorer, but he’s good enough. He’s an elite rebounder for the position and a good passer. He’s shooting a career high 50% from 3 which has really elevated his value. The only downside is he doesn’t rack up a ton of stocks. At 27 with A or A- across the board, he should receive max offers from everyone with cap space this offseason. 2. Paul Arizin, 33
Arizin started the season very slowly but has rebounded a bit since Jerry West returned to the lineup. He is arguably the best SF in NBN history, a tremendous mentor, and should still have a few good years remaining. His scoring has dipped for 3 straight years, but his efficiency is still good for nearly any other SF. His defense is what really separated him throughout his career and the stocks are still there. He’s a tough contract prediction. He’s a 16yr vet with a 28mil max. I don’t think he’ll get that unless it’s a 1 or 2 year deal. I’m going with 3yr/ 60mil.
3. Fuzzy Vandivier, 33
Like Arizin, Fuzzy’s scoring has dipped in 3 straight year, but his efficiency remains. He’s also nowhere near the defender or rebounder that Arizin is. As he continues to age, with backup SG ability, a super sub is probably his best position. D potential, combined with his age would give pause on giving him more than a 2 year deal. I do think he could be an elite scorer off the bench. I’ll say 2yr/30mil.
Gola has failed to live up to the hype he had as the #3 overall pick. He’s really found a nice role as a super sub though for both the Lakers and the Spurs the past few seasons. He filled in nicely while Baylor was injured this season and does have a nice little perk of a 2042 6th man award that is still unused. He’s a good passer, rebounder, and defender. He’s usually had a good FG% except for last season which appears to be the outlier. His 3pt shot seems to be very inconsistent based on the season. He’s proved that he’s capable to be a starter, but with his backup SG and PG ability, a 1-4 super sub is his best fit. He’ll fit great on a team that needs a do it all type guy instead of a scorer. With his age (29) and B potential, I think he can get a 6yr/80mil deal.
a. You can’t really talk about Chia without mentioning his glaring turnover problem. Thanks to Yourkers for PED camping him, they have lowered to a “manageable” low 3 level from his peak 4+. He’s one of the best rebounders at his position and a good defender with A+ rating. His efficiency has tailed off in recent seasons. He provides some mentor ability and should have a few good seasons left at just 32 years old next season. I think he’s someone who can be had for a reasonable price because of his reputation. I’m going with 3yr/$40mil
Honorable Mention:
Shellie McMillon, 25Kiyan Anthony, 34
Musa Jallow, 27
Satch Sanders, 23
This is a top heavy group. Baylor/Arizin make a hell of a FA combo and Fuzzy/Chia/Gola are solid starters or really great swing men. Sanders/McMillon are both interesting younger guys and Musa has a role in this league if he's on an appropriate contract.
Power Forward
1. Bill Bridges, 22He’s not the best PF available, but as a 22yo with B potential I think he will probably be the most valued PF on the market. He’s a double-double with 2+ blocks and limited turnovers. I don’t know that he’ll ever turn into an all-star, but he should be a good starter. The A+ defense with only 2 blocks suggests he’s a very strong post defender, which is a plus. With his age/potential I’m saying he’ll get like a 6yr/$75mil
2. Luka Samanic, 29
Coming off his first all-star appearance, Luka appears to have put his glaring turnover problem behind him. He’s been a huge find for the Hornets and I’m sure they would love to retain him. He was miscast as an option for Kings, but has shown his value as nearly a 15-13-4 on with outside shooting ability. I think the league will still be a little skeptical about the TOs though during FA and say 4yr/$60mil. 3. Jack Kerris, 34
Kerris has been a great PF for awhile, but will be hitting FA at age 34 with D potential. He still sports A+ defense which is where most of his value lies. His B+ rebounding rating isn’t reflected in his stats and he’s averaged 12+ the past 2 seasons. He should still be good for a 15-12-3 for the next year or 2. He has a career FG% of 46% and like Samanic adds some outside shooting ability. He’s signed some cheap deals over his career and this time I’m saying 2yr/$20mil 4. Vern Mikkelsen, 34
Vern is entering FA in a similar spot to Kerris. Both are 34 yo and should be good for something similar like a 15-12-3. He’s not the defender that Kerris is though, but does have C potential to Kerris’s D. As both age, I think Kerris’s defense makes him more valuable than Vern, but I would expect a similar deal for both. 2yr/$20mil. 5. Ed Macauley, 32
The former #1 overall pick never lived up to the hype and has become a journeyman, playing for 6 teams over the past 8 years. He’s a league average starter who has good scoring ability, but he’s not much of a rebounder and doesn’t produce a ton of blocks, although the steals are nice. He also turns it over too much. With D potential, I wouldn’t expect a robust market and will say something like another 1yr/$10mil. Honorable Mention:
Heino Kruus, 24Oton Jankovic, 35
Tyler Ringgold, 35
Robert Williams, 31
The league's weakest position is probably the worst in FA too. PG could be argued, but with Nico leading that group I'll go with PF. Samanic is the best of the group and Kerris/Vern are good starting veterans. Bridges will probably get a big contract from a rebuilding team that can take as swing on a 22yo. It falls off quickly in the honorable mention group with some players who might even retire. Not a lot of depth here.
1. Dino Meneghin, 30
Dino bounced back after a bit of a down year for him and has re-asserted himself as a top 5 center in the league. He’s likely going to land a spot on an All NBN team after his 18-13-4 season. At 30yr with C potential and A+ defense he should be well sought after in FA. He provides a nice mentor ability with the option to use All NBN 1st team or All Defensive add-on. He’s one of the best defenders in the league and a lock as a future Hall of Famer. I think he can get something like 5yr/$80mil.
2. Tom Barlow, 31
Barlow finally won a long overdue DPOY award last season behind a career high 5.9 stocks and 14.7 rebounds. He still rates A+ in both rebounding and defense and is having another good season, albeit a downgrade from last year. His offense developed in his late 20s to bring him to 40% FG and allow him to not be a 0 on offense. At age 31 with C potential, he should be a popular free agent. He won’t reach Dino’s contract, but I think he should fit in around 5yr/$65mil. 3. Leroy Edwards, 30
Leroy has long been a favorite of mine since he helped lead me to a title. I can see him being ranked ahead of Barlow, depending on what you prefer from your bigs. Leroy is one of the most efficient big man in the league and an elite shot blocker. He’s also a strong rebounder. Would you prefer Barlow’s 1 extra stock and .5 rebound or Leroy’s offensive game? I think he should expect a similar contract to Barlow and could beat it. 5yr/$65mil. 4. Jean-Paul Beugnot, 27
JPB offensive game is a bit inflated being the only scoring option on a horrible Bucks team. He is scoring efficiently, averaging 46% shooting the past few seasons on a high 20s points per game. His TOs are out of wack because of this, but he could be very similar to Samanic in this regard. Put him on a contending team as a non-option and he could be a 18-20ppg-11-2 with 2 TOs a game. The B+ defense with only 2.5 stocks a game is concerning and although he has A rebounding, he’s only been over 12 a game once in his career. I think he should be in line for a 5yr/$55mil deal. 5. Chuck Share, 31
The last spot was a toss-up between Share and Crosswhite. Crosswhite is 6 years younger and if he put up the same stats as last season, he would get the nod here, if not higher up the list. For now I’m putting Share. He’s a good rebounder and solid shot blocker. He should continue to get 12-12-2.5 for the next few seasons with limited turnovers and a nice shooting percentage. He has a little bonus perk of having 3rd team mentor ability as well. I would think he could get 3yr/$30mil. Honorable Mention:
Perry Crosswhite, 27Joe Quigg, 25
Arnie Risen, 30
Hunter Dickerson, 27
Neon Boudeaux, 36
The Center position is probably the most loaded of all the positions. It has 3 high end starters that are probably 3 of the top 8 in the league. It then has another 7 or so starter quality players. There's also Quigg with his A potential that has some intrigue. It'll be interesting to see if in the new cap structure that teams are able to afford to give big men a big contract, but I think Dino/Edwards/Barlow are all worthy.
