This is just my opinion please dont take anything serious, we can talk about my take verse yours in the comments. A follow up article should be coming as well after TC.
1. Jazz - C Nate Thurmond
Ratings : B- C+ C+ B+ A- A
Analysis: This pick was the easiest pick of the draft. Nate Thurmond was the obvious pick anybody couldve made this choice and looked good. The ratings are great as a rookie, the only thing that really needs to be camped is his scoring abilities from the get go. In the pre-draft camps thurmond preform to expectations. His near 28 PPG and 13 RPG looks like it can will keep the Utah fans in their seats a little longer. They should all be excited to this young man preform in the NBN. One could argue that a big was not needed, I would say you take the best player in the draft number 1 regardless of need.
Grade: A
2. Celtics - SG BJ Boston
Ratings : C+ B C+ B+ C- A
Analysis: I think BJ got picked earlier than he shouldve in this draft. Sure Boston is playing in Boston, but as of before TC I would have left him alone for a few more picks. Hes not a bad player at all especially if you look at his performance in the pre-draft camps. He looks to be good at everything, and not great at one thing. Great all around player, I just cant justify taking him before some of the other players picked. Even if this was a need pick, there were other 2 guards that couldve been chosen at the number 2 slot.
Grade: C
3. Bulls - SG Larry Jones
Ratings : B B C+ C+ C A
Analysis: Larry Jones looks to be the best perimeter player in this draft. His ratings are legit, he performed well in the pre-draft camps. I do believe he shouldve been the second player off the board in this draft before TC. I think highly of Jones and the way he put on a show in the camps. This player fell into the Bulls GM laps and all the fans can rejoice. Can this be the second coming of MJ ? Time will tell for that.
Grade: A
4. Kings - SG Eddie Miles
Ratings : C+ B+ C- B D+ A
Analysis: Eddie Miles looks to be a good player ome day. He just needs some TLC and he could definitely be a starter and contributor in this league. I think the Kings couldve gone either way with this pick, but I do like Miles at this part in the draft. I think there couldve been one player taken above Miles maybe two, but not a bad selection at all.
Grade: B
5. Bucks - PG Juan Antonio Corbalan**
Ratings : C B- B+ B- D A
Analysis: This pick confused me there were many PGs that were better on the board. The need was there, this player wont be able to play for 2 seasons which hurts his value. Hopefully he develops in those 2 years while he is in Europe playing out the rest if his contract with his current team. I still think the Bucks made the wrong pick here.
Grade: C+
6. Pistons - SG Jeff Mullins
Ratings : C+ B- B B C- A
Analysis: The head scratching picks continue with the Pistons selecting Jeff Mullins. An already capable defender Mullins is less than overwhelming on the offensive end. Hopefully his A potential is true and can use it all up in the upcoming TCs or the Pistons just wasted a pick. The real reason is because they already have Rod Thorn who seems to keep the starting gig even with the drafting of Mullins. He will be behind him for his whole career if he stays in Detroit. A head scratching pick to say the least.
Grade: C
7. 76ers - SG Art Heyman
Ratings : B+ C B+ B+ C+ A
Analysis: Loved the pick here by the 76ers. Art has shown flashes of being a very good player on both ends of the floor. The camps before the draft showed us the type of player that Art can become. Almost averaged a double double and ranking in the top 5 in scoring. This guy fell pretty far if you were going off my mock draft. Can we say the 76ers were lucky or good? I think a little of both with this pick.
Grade: A
8. Blazers - SG Mirza Delibasic
Ratings : C+ A- C B- C- A
Analysis: This pick was a good one. I like Mirza a lot. The guy is a sharpshooter and has a place in Portland. I dont see him being traded unless he doesnt shouw out in the first 2 seasons. It seems the Blazers will throw him into the fire unless they pick up a SG in the last day of Free Agency. Mirza isnt ready to be the starter right this second, but with a good TC and a couple camps I could see him doing well.
Grade: B+
9. Hawks - SF Joe Caldwell
Ratings : B C B A- C+ A
Analysis: This pick was an ok one. I have no problem with this pick, doesnt look to be a great offensive player, but his defense looks amazing! He will be a great role player that can lock down the opposing teams small forward down. Looks to be a tweener and very versatile defender so he could even get some time at the 4 for the Hawks. Solid player makes this a solid pick.
Grade: B
10. Pacers- SF Lou Hudson
Ratings : B B- C+ C+ C A
Analysis: Great pick. This guy looks like a bonafide scorer. Probably a second or 3rd option on a good team. If he doesnt do well his first season shooting, with his notes moving him to SG that could be a game changer. I think at SG this dude could be elite. We will see but I do think the Pacers got top 5 talent at pick 10.
Grade:B+
11. Magic - SG Liu Jianli
Ratings : C+ C+ B- C+ C+ A
Analysis: This is another puzzling pick in the lottey. Looks like an average SG to me. His rebounding is definitely a plus, and depending on his potential he could blow up, but with the other SGs available at 11 in this draft I think they did a horrible job. This could be the worst pick of the draft in my honest opinion. I just dont understand this pick.
Grade: D
12. Rockets - SF Bob Love
Ratings : B C+ D B C+ A
Analysis: This was my pick, I think I got the right guy that was available and for the betterment of the franchise for the long term. There were plenty of players I considered here, but Love showed the most promise and fit for the team.
Grade: N/A
13. Pacers - PG Daishen Nix
Ratings : C+ C+ B+ C+ C+ B
Analysis: Daishen Nix looks like a good prospect. He might pass a little too much, but his notes were lovely. The thing is can he stay healthy. This player shouldve went to the magic at 11 if they wanted to take a risk on a young guard. His notes were too good to pass up for the Pacers and they end up with a solid draft for their franchise. Could see Nix becoming a very good PG, TC is soon so we will see.
