Sorry this is so late. UCF sent me his stuff and I had a really busy weekend and couldnt post. Totally my fault but here it is.
Pacific
Blazers (UCF: 1, Zheld: 1)
PG Everett Case
SG Manuel Raga
SF Cliff Hagan
PF Kresmir Cosic
C Goga Bitadze
Key Ivan Mrazek
Key Satch Sanders
Key Antolly Polyvoda
UCF: Despite finishing in first last season, they got bested by the Clippers in the WCF, but I think they should be considered the favorites again in the Pacific. I really like the way that Bundy builds his teams and will try new roster configurations out. Cosic/Bitadaze is a really fun duo and are either the best or 2nd best combo in the league, depending on how you feel about Dino/Wilt. They are both players that I either drafted or developed, so they’ll always have a place in my heart. I think they complement each other well with Cosic’s outside game. They have a very intriguing prospect backing them up with Polvyoda. Hagan is someone I was completely wrong about. For some reason he just didn’t play as well while on my team and swapping him for Chia is probably the move I regret the most over the past 5 or so seasons. I’ve never been a huge fan of Raga, but I’m sure Bundy is excited about the steals he’ll generate. I just like my guards to be elite 3pt shooters, but with Cosic/Hagan/Case/Deliabasic it’s not a huge issue. Case is their biggest question mark. He’s long been under rated because of the contracts he’s been on, but he did decline a little in TC at age 33. He’s does fit very well with Raga though, to cover up his lack of steals and make up for Raga’s lack of 3s. Aside from Toronto, no other team will rely so heavily on their F/C to be their main scorers. This team also has a lot of youth/depth with Polvoda, Mrazek, Deliabasic and the probably not good, but fun player to have in Satch Sanders.
Zheld: I like the blazers offseason a lot. Goga is one of the best defensive big men in the league and Cosic is one of the best offensive big men in the league. Combined with Hagan’s 30ppg they have one of the best frontcourts in the league. In the new cap system Cosic’s contract looks pretty good. Raga should be a good starter for them and with their frontcourt they don’t need a ton from their backcourt. They also have some good young players in Polyvoda and Mirza. They are going to have to make some moves after this year because of their cap sheet. I think they are doing a really good job balancing youth and championship level players and it should serve them well in keeping their championship hopes going past this year.
Clippers (UCF: 2, Zheld: 2)
PG Larry Costello
SG Bobby McDermott
SF Fuzzy Vandivier
PF Jack Kerris
C Ed Dancker
Key Dick Groat
Key Joe Fulks
Key Johnny Green
UCF: I thought last year was going to be the last year of this Clippers core, but they are giving it another go. The team feels expensive and old, but they are able to keep it together for another run because of Costello and his amazing contract. Aside from Costello (whose 29 himself), every series contributor for this team is going to be 31+ except for backup PF Johnny Green. Costello had an outstanding year and won the MVP. We’ll see if he can continue that as he hit career highs in almost every area. Combined with McDermott, they make up one of the best backcourts in the league. They swapped out Calder for Fuzzy to save some salary and should get the same type of production. Kerris/Dancker/Green make up a good frontcourt who will give you plenty of shot blocking, shoot well and rebound well enough as a group. They are going to try 38yo Fulks out as backup 3/4 and will be curious how that goes. I can’t imagine he has the quickness to survive, but they don’t have many other options. Groat/Green provide them with good depth, but this team really feels like it’s a backup wing short. They should be in for the typical Clippers season where they are competing for home court and have as good a shot as anyone as making it to the WCF again.
Zheld: The Clippers may have the best player in the league this side of Jerry West in Larry Costello and they were just one win away from besting the hornets last year in the finals. They were able to keep this core going because of his contract and swapping Calder for Fuzzy. I think they should be considered one of the favorites in the western conference again this year. McDermott and Costello should average close to 60ppg combined. They have been finagling the cap and moving money around and at some point it is going to come back and bite them but at this point they are keeping their championship window open for the near future. This team is getting a little older but if they do have a weakness its probably their big men rotation. We will see if Dancker Keris Green can carry them. One thing is for sure that they probably will have to score more than they did last year to cover the dropoff from Calder to Fuzzy in scoring.
Suns (UCF: 3, Zheld: 3)
PG Milos Teodosic
SG Carlo Recalcati
SF Modestas Pauluaskas
PF Jack Coleman
C Arnie Risen
Key Bill Bridges
Key Cumberland Posey
Key Leroy Ellis
UCF: I’m not really sure what starting lineup the Suns will land on. They have a huge hole at SG as it doesn’t appear that SG Relacti is ready to start. The Suns had a good free agency, getting Bill Bridges back and signing Risen and Posey to fair deals. They also surprised people last year making some big trades and riding the play of Milo/Modestas. The Milo’s trade was a slam dunk for them and he had the best season of his career. The only knock with him is the turnovers and you’d like to see them get closer to 2, but can live with 2.5 if he’s going to shoot as well as he did last season. Modestas surprised the league by earning 2nd Team All-NBN. I don’t think anyone views him as a top 3 SF, but his stats look better than his ratings would suggest. He really doesn’t have any weakness except the lack of stocks, but they look to be a bit lower than he usually produces. Coleman/Risen/Bridges is a good trio. They need to figure out the SG spot though. Carlo looks like a very promising prospect, but they need a veteran. They own all of their picks + the Nuggets pick and really need to consider moving one or 2 of them for some help. I’m not sure they have the salary to acquire someone like Smawley/Galis without moving one of their bigs, but it may be worth exploring since they have some depth there. Overall I think they should battle for the playoffs this year and think they should have the upper hand.
Zheld: The Milos trade that I made with the Suns I think made sense for me at the time but is probably the trade I regret the most. He had one of his best years as a starter last year and if he can continue that trend this year they should easily make the playoffs. Their biggest weakness is SG and even with Recalcati taking a leap in TC I doubt they will get 15ppg from their SG spot this year. They may not need it when they get 30ppg from Paulauskas and have a great big man rotation in Risen, Bridges, and Coleman. I do think if they can manage to deal for a high level SG they could potentially make some noise in the playoffs. I really think they need to make a move for a SG and they have the picks and pieces to make a big move. I like this team a lot especially if they can make a few moves.
Sonics (UCF: 4, Zheld: 4)
PG Fedor Zugic
SG Ja Morant
SF Anfernee Simons
PF Paolo Banchero
C Janis Krumins
Key Filip Petrusev
Key Tom Meschery
Key Gerald Tucker
UCF: I’m going with the Sonics at #4 behind the Simons/Morant duo. The should combine for close to 55points. The team will go as far as they take them because they don’t really have much else. Paolo is an interesting big man who I tried really hard to draft because of his draft notes, but hasn’t really produced much yet, despite some good ratings. Is this the year that Filip Ptreusev finally breaks out? The Sonics will really need him to. The reason I’m putting the Sonics at #4 over the Warriors/Lakers is because the Sonics have some moves left to make to improve. They have their core in Simons/Morant and They have Zugic and Siegfried, all of their own picks and a very juicy Pistons 1st next season as assets. They seem like a prime candidate for Oscar Schmidt or one of Pazin/Twyman. To be honest I’m really shocked that Schmidt isn’t already in Seattle. I could be open to moving Lopatka if they want a younger SF . I don’t really have a lot else to say about this team. A lot of their mid round prospects like Meschery, Baldwin, and Eboua appeared to have flamed out. They are really a 2 man show, but have potential to get better.
Zheld: Loved the Sonics trade for Simons as he can play SG or SF for them. Fedor and Morant are a great young backcourt combination and I like that they appear to be going for it because I think they have the pieces to make some noise. Their big man rotation leaves a lot to be desired but I do like Paolo and think he is pretty underrated especially with his contract. With his TC step in outside shooting I could see him 20ppg. I think they probably need another big man but they could easily make a move or 2 and have a very good rotation. They have a lot of pieces to trade to get better I just don’t know what they need another scorer or a defender/rebounder.
Warriors (UCF: 5, Zheld: 5)
PG John Isaacs
SG Nikos Galis
SF Zoran Paunovic
PF Robert Williams
C Neon Boudeaux
Key Pee Wee Kirkland
Key Jared Terrell
Key Austin Wiley
UCF: The Warriors are kind of just treading water right now. They have 2 very nice pieces in Galis/Zoran, but it seems like the Warriors would prefer to be sellers than buyers. Outside of Zoran their cap sheet is very clean next season and they have the potential for 3 lottery picks. They own the Suns, who should be a borderline playoff team, their own, and the Wolves who looks like a good bet to be a high pick. For propsects they have the #15 pick in PF Tresvant and PG Pee Wee. They could move those picks for veterans around Galis/Zoran, but with how loaded the top of the West is, it just doesn’t make much sense. They stole Galis on a big 1 year deal and he should have some trade value, especially if he runs him out as #1 option to start the season. Zoran is on a flat 15.75mil deal and should have good trade value. He’s another player that could interest the Sonics since he’ll be cheaper to fit around Simons/Morant. Zoran is a great rebounder, very good scorer and doesn’t turn it over. His only downside is the lack of stocks. Isaacs could have some value as a 6th man, but is overpaid for that spot. Neon/Wiley should have value to contenders as backup bigs who rebound/shot block. I expect the Warriors to be active on the trade front this season as they look to rebuild around the draft next year.
Zheld: Warriors made a lot of moves this offseason and basically revamped their entire starting lineup. Not sure what to make of this team right now to be honest, but I could see Galis and Paunovic averaging 25ppg each. Their big men leave a lot to be desired, but they have some mentor capabilities for their draft pick Tresvant. I honestly cannot figure out if they will be a middle of the league team or one of the bottom of the league teams. I think they did well in free agency to get some pieces they can move if they decide they want to tank but for now they seem to be in the middle ground between competing and tanking. Personally I think they should probably try and rebuild but we will see what they do. I think like a lot of teams in the pacific they have some work to do but they have the pieces to do it.
Lakers (UCF: 6, Zheld: 6)
PG KC Jones
SG Sam Jones
SF Shellie McMillon
PF Tom Heinsohn
C Daniel Gafford
Key Meadowlark Lemon
Key AJ Casey
Key Noble Jorgenson
UCF: They had a tremendous season last year and really finished with a better record than anyone would have imagined. Going into this year though they lost their best player in SF Elgin Baylor and their do it all guy in F Tom Gola and replaced them with SF Shellie McMillon. The contract feels a bit rich for a guy who is a great rebounder, but will struggle to score 15pt and doesn’t do anything else particularly well. You can say the Gola for McMillon swap is a wash, but then they still lost Baylor without any type of replacement. This will put more of the scoring load on the Jones brothers. KC exploded last year and went from having the worst contract in the league to just a bit overpaid. He scoring total jumped nearly 10pt and his FG% jumped from 43% to 48% and 3pt from 33% to 41%. He’s one of the best defenders at the position and doesn’t turn it over. Sam never took the leap that many would have hoped for from the #2 overall pick. Still, he’s a good starter, who combined with KC, could lead the league in steals from their starting backcourt. Heinsohn is a good scorer, but is an average at best rebounder and doesn’t block many shots, but is one a tremendous contract. Beyond that, they don’t really have much else. The have all of their picks, but don’t really have any valuable prospects. This team is bound to regress and I’m not really expecting them to make the playoffs in a deep conference.
Zheld: Lakers had a great year and Baylor is a true star. Unfortunately for the Lakers the Hawks came in with a huge offer for him in FA and stole him away. I cant blame the Lakers for not wanting to pay that ridiculous salary and they recovered pretty well with McMillon but they are kind of stuck with this team from now on. The Jones’ in the backcourt should be able to carry them to respectability but again this is a team that should probably blow it up at this point. For example Sam Jones to the Suns for a rebuilding package would make the suns a contender in my mind and could net the Lakers a package that would jumpstart the next phase of their team. They don’t really have much outside of the Jones brothers. More pieces for contenders to pillage at the deadline.
Kings (UCF: 7, Zheld: 7)
PG Curly Neal
SG Josip Gjergia
SF Bob Wiesenhahn
PF Ray Scott
C Don Otten
Key Eddie Miles
Key Puggy Bell
Key Dino Zucchi
UCF: Another open team that is likely to finish with the #1 pick. I don’t think they are particularly worse than some of the East teams, but will have a more difficult schedule. This team badly needs a new GM to take advantage of the one-time amnesty and clean up the mess. The previous GM gave Puggy Bell a big contract to a not very good player. Despite putting up 20-10 last season, he shot under 40% with 3.4 TOs. He’s signed for an additional 4 years. The Josip contract is a little more defensible. I think he played as a SG last season and he’s a decent scorer and good 3pt shooter. The lack of rebounding makes it really tough to play him there though. With an amnesty though, this team may be more attractive than the Bucks. They own their own pick and a Pistons pick that looks like it should be high lotto as well. PG Curly Neal, SG Eddie Miles, 2 top 5 picks and a clean cap sheet aside from Josip is an attractive place to begin a rebuild. There’s not much else to talk about on this roster.
Zheld: I feel like Puggy Bell is performing at an incredible rate considering how people originally viewed the contract but even with averaging 20/10 he has a horrible contract. They have a lot of young players who probably would be pretty good with some camping but unfortunately they do not have a GM to take advantage of it. I could see Curly Neal averaging 20/10 even without camping. I don’t think this team is in as bad of shape as it may seem on paper but they badly need a GM to try and make some moves and camp the good young players that they actually do have.
