Slough:
Hello StayMe7o, how are you this fine evening?
Lets run through a few things and get this NBN conversation going.
How do you feel your offseason is looking?
StayMe7o:
I’m good, how are you doing tonight?
My offseason has been a very boring one. No draft picks no cap to bid on FAs. So it’s slow, but i am more focused on internally improving rather than bringing new faces in. How has yours gone?
Slough:
Mine has been very productive with some solid vet signings and a trade for a solid PF with the Sonics.
I also had a decent draft I feel, even though there wasn't a lot of big names, but both improved.
Do you plan on competing this after after a solid first preseason sim?
StayMe7o:
Competing has always been in the plan for this season, and probably onward. After this season yardley will probably retire to give me room to sign Dior and Willis, hopefully. If I can keep this young core intact with Russell being the leader I believe i can be a competitor in the West for a few seasons and hopefully sneak a championship in there.
What are your plans for this upcoming season? Will you be rebuilding or trying to compete?
Slough:
At the moment I will probably play around with my lineup and see how I do to start the year, as I do have some solid players, but I am not sure. FBB can be a funny game sometimes, at the moment I believe I am a playoff team, but you never know, which is why I still own my pick.
With lack of activity during the beginning of your tenure here, was there a reason for it or just busy? It seems you have put in more time and how are you liking the league now?
StayMe7o:
I was inactive because of a mixture of being busy and this moving slower than i am used too. I work go to school and coach high school basketball so that took up a lot of my time. I got into it because i stopped coaching basketball to focus on school and freed up a little more time and I’m competitive and people started acting like i was just bad at this. In reality i wasn’t trying but hey who really cares? Yes spending more time here did get me to actually like the league once again. We will see what happens.
What do you think about the drafts here? I feel like some players are meant to be stars and others have the potential to be stars every season. Are there too many good players in each draft or is it perfect?
Slough:
Good question. I think in every league ratings end up getting inflated.
We use to have more late round and 2nd round players that turned into stars if they were camped properly, but there were some that complained about it, so Silver brought everything way back on the Gleague.
I don't mind known great players since we are doing retro's, plus Silver does a good job and studying past stats they had in real life, so I think the drafts are fine, but definitely when the players get inflated, makes it harder to build teams other than outside strategy it seems.
Are their any future players in the drafts you are looking forward to seeing?
StayMe7o:
Yes I am looking forward to having some of the Knicks that won their only 2 championships in their history. I already nabbed Willis, would love to get Walt “Clyde” Frazier on my team at one point. Met him at a knicks game just sat next to me during warmups and talked to me for a good 10-15 minutes before he started getting bombarded by fans asking for pictures and autographs. I didn’t even get a picture with him. Other than that don’t know many players in the 60s and 70s.
Speaking of wanting players on your team, is there one player in the league now that you would sell out for to have?
Slough:
At the moment not really, but let me get Willis Reed haha. I actually agree with you above, I have the Mavs pick and my 1sts so it would be sweet to get Earl 'The Pearl' Monroe or Walt Frazier.
What record do you forecast for yourself this season?
StayMe7o:
Willis is the only player I won’t move, sorry lol.
This season I think the best we can do is about 52 wins. That would be best case scenario. So I’ll st around 47-35. Injuries will hurt when they happen because I’m not the deepest team so I’m praying we stay relatively healthy.
Who do you believe to be the favorite this season to win it all? Any dark horses you would take a flyer on?
Slough:
Its hard not to say the Grizz are the favorites and thought they would have won it last year as well.
As for a Dark Horse, I would say the Hornets with West being so good.
For the last question, how are you feeling about the new salary cap rules?
StayMe7o:
The new salary cap rules I think are good. The one year max for FA is my concern. Should have a cap on that. I don’t mind the no HC. I think it actually makes a lot of sense for this league.
Slough:
For me, this is the first time I have played without the normal salary cap rules in FBB, so it is quite interesting and I see some flaws of course, but trying to adapt. Definitely a different strategy and gm's who have played like this have a huge advantage I can see already, but it will even out, definitely adds to trades and more activity which is why I voted yes for a change.
Gets real stagnant when you can't make trades really and I think that is a huge factor in going for it. I was always about the waiver rule, but this is a close second to that.
I want to thank the Rockets for the interview and getting it done as fast as we did on Monday and today, as I wasn't as available as I thought I would be over the weekend when I wanted to get it done, but still in time for the first sim
