It's great to be back and I was right back to my wheeling and dealing ways. I made sure to overturn this roster and did so in quick order. Here's a look at what I started with and what is left.
Starting Roster:
Pascal Siakam
Scottie Barnes
Dennis Schröder
Jakob Poeltl
Malachi Flynn
Chris Boucher
Gary Trent Jr.
OG Anunoby
Precious Achiuwa
Gradey Dick
Jalen McDaniels
Otto Porter Jr.
Garrett Temple
Thaddeus Young
Christian Koloko
Who is remaining:
Pascal Siakam
Scottie Barnes
Barnes is the franchise player and will be here until I decide that I have given up and want to try something new but I expect myself to hold onto him for many years. Siakim I have been looking to move but have had zero luck. I might just keep him and do something interesting with him. Due to his low rebounding it might be best to have him be a true 6th Man. We will see if I can get any traction on a move or if not. Now lets overlook all the deals that now make up the new look raptors.
suns trade:
Chimezie Metu
Bradley Beal
Damion Lee
$350
raptors trade:
Gary Trent Jr
Chris Boucher.
Jakob Poeltl
My first deal and the first deal of NBN 3.0. I wanted booker but I will settle for Beal who next to Barnes should create a dynamic wing duo. Raptors needed that true go to scorer that they lack on the roster and feel that is what he brings. Barnes can be number 2 and do his thing as a do it all forward.
Raptors get: Bassey, Champagnie, Wesley
Spurs get: Flynn, McDaniels, 600 cash
This right here was the Spurs taking advantage of my want for spurs players. I would have loved to add vassell but once I got Beal it made no sense. Now I have a love for notre dame and it's why I wanted Wesley. Feel irl he is getting a shitty spot with not getting any time especially when we aren't winning. Bassey being only 22 and having a build like he does is very promising. He has 2 camp years left and that could mean he could be a really good defender/rebounder on this team and on a team friendly contract. Champagnie was cap reasons and I made sure to move on from his contract.
Raptors get: Smart, Aldata
Grizz get: Porter, Young, Achiuwa, raptors 24 1st
Smarts build isn't anything special but only giving up my first this year for a guy who is one of the best defensive pgs in the game really isn't the worst deal. Also aldata looks like an interesting piece. He looks like he could be a good rotational big who could fill in at SF if needed. Always need versatility.
blazers send
500
raptors send
gradey dick
That name though. Can't tell me he didn't get bullied. But yeah I just wanted a cash grab and he would have been getting zero time on my roster so getting a camp worthy of cash is solid. Decent build but there seems to be flaws but if he booms I'll def feel some type of way.
Raptors get: Stewart, Bogdanovic, 150 cash
Pistons get: OG, Lee, Temple
I really really like Stewart and a big who has the ability to stretch the floor. B- B- def/reb is also really nice especially when he is still 22 and has B potential. Super camp and a good TC next year and I think I hit a homerun. Bogdon doesn't stay long but I did see him as instant offense off the bench and getting cash back is always nice. Now with OG with Barnes he becomes expendable and I didn't like the C+ inside scoring. His defense was awesome but what would he do offensively? That I didn't want to find out.
Raptors get: Johnson
Spurs get: Bogdanovic(from Pistons trade) Raptors 25th 1st, 150 cash
I def got talked into this one because of being a Spurs fan. I do like Johnson and feel he will be great off the bench and is much younger than Bogdan but giving a first might not of been a great idea. But with how my team was shaping up I do think that pick shouldn't be too valuable. I was thinking timeline here for sure.
Jazz send:
Morris (76ers currently)
Korkmaz (76ers currently)
$500
Spurs send:
McDaniels
Bojan
I left this one off of the trade grade article because it was fully effected by one of my trades. So did little something different here. I feel this trade works great for both teams. Spurs rebuilding get rid of McDaniels contract and move Bogdanovic for a camp worthy of cash and the Jazz upgrade at SF and get an instant offensive players in Bogdanovic. It's a win win for sure.
Jazz grade: B+
Spurs trade: B+
Now back to my trades
Raptors get: White
Celtics get: Schroder, Champagnie, Metu, 375 cash
White a former spur(get the trend) was too good to pass on. He is a good shooter and defender and can back up PG and think that will do me a great deal more than Schroder would have. I have Smart to start and upgrade my defense with this deal while losing Champagnie contract. I love this deal. Bald White is here in your city!!!
6 trades and a whole new roster to work around. The team def gained offense from Beal and a more defensive minded backcourt with the additions of White and Smart. The front court will be the question. Can the young guns hold up? Is Siakam a starter? Or is he better suited to be the 6th Man? It will be trial and error for sure to see what works especially since we don't know much. Overall I like the roster and it needs a little more depth but with Barnes/Beal I feel confident we can compete for sure.
