NBN PER: Top 10 PFs
After looking at the Cs, let's look at PF where we see tons of variety in play styles and body types leading to some interesting results.
PER Intro & Overall Top 10
Top 10 Cs
1. Kevin Durant – 25.3 PPG/ 8.1 RPG/ 2.9 APG/ 2.2 StPG, 27.48 PER
Kevin Durant had an interesting first year in the league. He started out with the Suns where he showed some of the most efficient scoring ever, averaging over 20 PPG in under 30 minutes as one of two 6th men to make the All-Star Game. Then, he got shipped to Toronto where he continued to dominate offensively in the most under-sized teams in the league. KD’s 25 PPG on nearly 60% True Shooting in only 30 MPG prove that he’s still the premier scorer in the league in his age 35 season.
2. Giannis Antetokounmpo – 31.1 PPG/ 13.4 RPG/ 3.6 APG/ 2.5 StPG, 24.27 PER
Giannis was a great choice for MVP if Jokic didn’t take it. His statline is out of this world, coming in #2 in scoring (Steph Curry) and #3 in rebounding (Jokic, Ivaca Zubac). While Giannis is undoubtedly a better defender than Jokic, his turnovers were his downfall as he landed #3 in the league and was the only non-PG to make the leaderboard.
3. Lauri Markkanen – 22.2 PPG/ 9.7 RPG/ 1.9 APG/ 1.8 StPG, 21.05 PER
Markkanen is unfortunately the type of player who will never get the respect he deserves in FBB. Rumors around the league were that contenders were looking at Markkanen to bolster their bench at the trade deadline, but the Jazz smartly held onto the All-League 3rd team PF. Markannen is an incredible scorer from anywhere on the court and a decent rebounder but shows a C defense and doesn’t show many counting stats on that side of the ball.
4. Lebron James – 17.8 PPG/ 7.4 RPG/ 4.0 APG/ 1.3 StPG, 20.57 PER
Sixth Man of the Year LeBron James comes in at #4. While his rebounding would leave a lot to be desired as a starting PF, his incredible all-around game makes him the ideal bench player as he proved this season leading the Sixers’ second unit. His shooting could stand to improve as he shot below 70% from the FT line, but otherwise LeBron had one of the better bench seasons I’ve seen in FBB.
5. Kyle Kuzma – 19.0 PPG/ 8.3 RPG/ 2.2 APG/ 1.4 StPG, 18.97 PER
Kyle Kuzma has been a bit of a controversy throughout the league as the Wizards struggled to find a good home for him before the trade deadline. Instead, he stayed with the team and led them to 36 wins, enough for dash to win his bet but not much else.
6. Jerami Grant – 18.1 PPG/ 6.9 RPG/ 1.8 APG/ 1.7 StPG, 18.86 PER
Jerami Grant and Kyle Kuzma being right next to each other in the rankings is perfect as they seem like pretty similar FBB big men. Both are good, efficient scorers but are generally poor elsewhere. They’re both a tier below Markkanen and James but they’re solid players.
7. Zion Williamson – 16.9 PPG/ 8.9 RPG/ 2 APG/ 1.3 StPG, 18.50 PER
This version of Zion is a very weird FBB player. He’s a dominant interior scorer but shot 63% from the line and only attempted 1 three-point shot all year. He doesn’t provide much of anything defensively and is a below-average rebounder at his position. Despite all this, he’s one of the premier players on one of the league’s best teams.
8. Paolo Banchero – 17.4 PPG/ 8.5 RPG/ 2.3 APG/ 1.7 StPG, 18.03 PER
Banchero is the second member of the best young big man duo in the league in Oklahoma. The duo will be a fun one to watch, as both can score from anywhere (both top 5 in their position from 3). Banchero isn’t the defender Holmgren is but shows some potential in that area. If he can improve his rebounding and average a double-double, the Thunder can soon find themselves in championship contention.
9. Pascal Siakam – 21.0 PPG/ 9.5 RPG/ 3.0 APG/ 1.3 StPG, 18.01 PER
Siakam had a weird season, getting traded a couple times just to end up on a tanking team with a similar player already entrenched in the same position. Despite the circumstances, he still put together a really solid season, averaging nearly a double-double as the leading scorer on his team.
10. Julius Randle – 18.7 PPG/ 10.2 RPG/ 3.5 APG/ 1.0 StPG, 16.81 PER
As alluded to in the last section, Julius Randle spent much of his season sharing time with Siakam on the Knicks with little talent surrounding them. Randle ended up in a better situation with the Raptors but still came up just short of the playoffs. Randle’s turnovers and inefficiency landed him 1 spot behind Siakam despite similar season stats.
Notable Misses: Evan Mobley (11th, 16.68), Draymond Green (20th, 12.96), Aaron Gordon (23rd, 12.71)
Who are you surprised to see make or miss the list?
