Atlanta Hawks
UCF Favorite Move: Van is always going to be cautious in FA. I like the Ivaca Zubac signing and think he has value on that contract
UCF Least Favorite Move: Not being more aggressive in FA. Again, I know it’s not Van’s style but there was a lot of talent available
Melo Favorite Move: Signing Zubac. Know he doesn’t fit the timeline with this roster, but he is a really good player on a now really good deal.
Melo Least Favorite Move: Like some other teams, not going all out with the cap space. I’m sure van wanted to be conservative and not throw out and get stuck with gigantic deals, but there were some nice players to offer for.
Charlotte Hornets
UCF Favorite Move: Not a ton of options. I liked the Richaun Holmes signing. I think he’s a very good 3rd big
UCF Least Favorite Move: I thought both draft picks made sense and made a lot of lower level FA signing. Probably need to balance roster now with so many PGs, so we’ll see what they can do.
Melo Favorite Move: Bringing back Russell. Not sure I love the player, but he has been decent for the first 2 teams he played for. Think the contract is modest as well.
Melo Least Favorite Move: Not upgrading the SG spot. Think this team is fun, but not ready to truly contend. Bring in a legit SG and that could change.
New Orleans Pelicans
UCF Favorite Move: Resigning Trey Murphy. He was a hot name in FA and I offered him the same deal but with increases, so getting him back on a flat deal was a great move. Also loved the Mintz draft pick
UCF Least Favorite Move: Not using remaining cap space to fill out roster. Not sure what happened there. They have some holes if they want to be a title contender
Melo Favorite Move: Resigning Trey Murphy to that deal. Think he’s a really good player and think that contract is extremely favorable.
Melo Least Favorite Move: Not bringing back Jonas. Don’t think the deal he was given was out of Slough’s numbers, but maybe he just forgot to send a bid in?
Cleveland Cavaliers
UCF Favorite Move: Jarrett Allen. I thought they got a good return for an expiring Allen. 2 decent picks, prospect and cash when they clearly wanted to go the rebuild route
UCF Least Favorite Move: Donovan Mitchell trade. They got way more for Allen in my opinion. They didn’t really get anything of value except maybe a Blazers 27 pick. I guess Jett Howard is a decent prospect
Melo Favorite Move: Unloading guys to get picks back. This team was in no-mans land and couldn’t get over the hump so getting those picks back was essential. Also liked the Okpara pick.
Melo Least Favorite Move: Signing Ziaire Williams to that deal. Not a fan of the contract or the player.
Detroit Pistons
UCF Favorite Move: Wolves trade of Izan/Mathurin for N’Diaye/Reid/28 1st. Wolves really like Izan, but getting a future pick and then N’Diaye who had a really nice TC turned into a great trade. Reid is a rotation big too
UCF Least Favorite Move: Ismaila Diagne pick. This was a bad pick at the time and made even worse after TC. I should have gone for Derrion Reid, but I thought this was going to be a rebuilding team and not trying to compete.
Melo Favorite Move: Signing Giannis. I know the deal looks massive in the grand scheme of things, but having Giannis on a flat deal will not destroy their cap and will improve the team drastically.
Melo Least Favorite Move: Resigning Cade to that contract. It had to be done, but paying Cade 60 million down the line is rough.
Indiana Pacers
UCF Favorite Move: Cam Thomas signing. Grabbed a 2x allstar that’s only 23yo to go with Haliburton was a nice move. Isaiah Jackson move was sneaky too. Was like WTF until I looked deeper and saw he’s a shot blocking monster
UCF Least Favorite Move: Losing Kawhi sucks. It was essentially a Thomas for Kawhi trade, which is probably a fair move considering age and what Kawhi signed for, but still sucks to lose one of the best SFs in the league for this season
Melo Favorite Move: Bringing in Cam Thomas to play SG. The Pacers have had a slight hole at the 2 guard spot since we started, so solidifying that is huge for this team going forward.
Melo Least Favorite Move: Not resigning Kawhi. Although I can’t blame him because of the price, not bringing Leonard back leaves a gigantic hole at SF.
Milwaukee Bucks
UCF Favorite Move: N/A
UCF Least Favorite Move: They didn’t do anything. It sucks losing Giannis, but with 65mil in cap space they could have pivoted and made an attempt. They could have signed the 2 guys the Nets did and atleast put a team together for this season instead of just throwing in the towel. Maybe they will stick around and use that cap space to absorb bad contracts for some assets and make something of the situation
Melo Favorite Move: Drafting Elliot Cadeau at 8. Think this draft had a bunch of pretty good PGs and when you look at a player who can dish and play efficiently, Elliot has that build.
Melo Least Favorite Move: Obviously not sending any FA bids. Assuming Bucks have no GM, but with no picks and now no Giannis, they’re screwed.
Toronto Raptors
UCF Favorite Move: Bismack Biyombo for LLE. This is a great value. Bismack plays his role well and is a great value. Can be a 2nd big with the right team around him, but ideally a good 3rd big to come off the bench and get boards
UCF Least Favorite Move: Overall the roster is kind of all over the place. Knowing yourkers this roster will be completely different in 2 days, but right now it looks like just a hodge posh of random pieces
Melo Favorite Move: Bismack Biyombo on the LLE. Think this roster is pretty similar to what it was towards the end of last season (aside from the Lavine deal), but think Bismack at that price is a steal.
Melo Least Favorite Move: Was not the biggest fan of the Vassell for Lavine deal. I know yourk needed cash and man did he get a lot of it, just feel Vassell fit their timeline more.
