1. Walk me through the process of the Wembanyama trade. He’s obviously an elite talent, but 8 firsts is unprecedented. Why did you feel he was worth it?
Wemb is like any other talent we have in the league with his all around ability. There's only 2 other true talents like him in Jokic and Embiid. Those teams were some of the best in the league. So having a player like Wemb is gonna put me on the right path to having a great team. But on top of that I added some other talent while losing Beal contract. So all in all I got 3 players for 8 picks and not just Wemb. But yeah that was my guy I wanted and now I have him.
2. On the flip side, explain the Scottie Barnes deal and why you made it. Seemed like he was on an elite trajectory and you seemed highly of him.
The expiring scared me. Plus my team was not really producing and I was planning a rebuild at the time. So getting at the time a Pistons pick and my pick back allowed me to do that. I also was hoping to sell and get back if he didn't resign. As I look at it without trading Barnes I don't get wemb so I am ok with that. Now should I have gotten a little more? I probably should have knowing how good Barnes is and was going to be.
3. What’s Brandon Miller’s ceiling? Where do you see him in the rankings of up and coming SFs? Will his defense and rebounding catch up to make him a top tier SF?
I see him as an elite scorer who still had plenty of growth left. He hasn't lost his A potential so that's a good sign. He might never be a top tier like a Barnes or Tatum as I was truly hoping but if he can be the 25 a game scorer I think he can be I will be happy and this year I am gonna let him show what he is capable of. I think his ceiling is a B A scorer and he will reach B- defense which I will be happy with. The rebounding will be what they are. My hope is he can get to 6 a game. Just another player I wanted from the beginning and I am happy with what I see.
4. You’ve been on the hunt for a PG this offseason, but have yet to be successful. Are teams asking too much or are there just not enough good PGs in the league yet?
Teams just don't want to take on a contract and that's my biggest problem. I also just don't have the asset power to move that I am comfortable with. I also just think some people have too high a price on guys who have their flaws and aren't elite. So I have made my offers and some don't even care to reply and others say they have better deals. So I am stuck and will probably have to see what Dillingham can bring to the table. He had a nice TC and might be the guy anyway. I just felt he is a year away.
5. Explain in more detail the Zach Lavine trade and why you decided to go much older at the position moving on from Vassell?
So at the time I saw myself in a 3k tax hole and was looking to find a way out and that was the offer that came to the table. I would have loved to just keep vassell and camp my big time players but hard to do that when you have a ton to camp. So a hard choice but one I had to make if I wanted to put camps into the likes of Miller, Dillingham, and Wemb with wallace as well.
6. 2 seasons into the new league, what’s your thoughts on NBN being back? What’s the one thing that you missed the most while we were in our hiatus? What’s one thing you hope to see as we move forward?
I love that it's back and I missed the community and talking trade or just talking bout the league in general. It's been great that it's back and as far as what I want to see going forward is the older classes being added. Always fun when names you know and want to see are added to the draft classes. Also how the league looks like in 10 years. Want to see if we found a way to control inflation.
7. Give me your thoughts on the contracts that we currently have throughout the league? In your opinion, is cap space as important as it used to be with the contracts that are being thrown around?
I don't think it's much different. I think we just have to get use to seeing these numbers. Once we do it will go back to being the usual. What I will find interesting is how cap is used. Can we find steals and use our cap space more wisely and build a team. We will have a higher lux tax bill which can be an issue down the road but for now it will just take time to get use to.
8. With the lack of inflation currently throughout the league, what is one position that you think is the most valuable to build your team around and why?
Still think it's the pg because of how the game is run. Year one was the bigs and year two was maxey. You have an elite pg you will go far for sure. Pacers have Haliburton and do really well as the Pelicans with Brunson. Kings with fox and jazz with just doncic made the playoffs. PGs will run the league regardless of inflation or not.
9. Whether or not you have had any draft picks yet, what’s your thoughts on the 2 drafts we have had? Along the same lines, would you like to see more notes going forward?
I think the drafts have been different because there is less notes especially towards the top tier players. I am happy with that because the top guys don't need any help. I think rog has done an amazing job with putting the classes together and the only problem that will ever come is that some players will just look the same. Very limited on how unique the players can look. But overall I am happy to see how the players have turned out and Flagg will be a straight beast like he should. As for notes there doesn't need to be too much and keep them to 2nd and 3rd tier guys and that will keep inflation down for sure.
10. What’s your honest opinion on interim GMs? Do you think it’s a downfall of the league or leagues can continue with a handful of GMs overseeing 2 teams?
I am 100% fine with interm gms. I think it allows the teams to draft players and make sure they are camped. To keep teams running properly and atteactive for the next team. We don't want them to lose players or have uncamped players. It would just find them as useless and that we don't want so a trusted person running them makes for the league as a hole to keep on running at high speeds. Keeps things entertaining too.
