1. With how different this league is vs our last one, explain how you’ve been trying to get used to the new ratings and how it’s affected your moves so far?
When I joined in the league the last time, it was mature and set, and through the wavier wire I was able to understand the file. This is a new file so ratings are a bit lower than in the last league IMO, especially with some of the camping not being available. I'm still trying to get a feel of how much power is needed to win a title. I think that Davis and Bam are two of the best in the business, and they should be able to get me mentor camps down the line which I'll need if I want to fix this roster
2. You have arguably the best big man 1-2 punch with AD and Bam, but the rest of the roster is lacking. How will you look to address that?
I'm going to try to use just those two to win the title, and then have the scraps do what's the bare minimum necessary to win in this league. In that sense, I'm still testing around with DCs to figure out the best way to award hunt for bam and davis to try to get those mentor camps, so undervalued scraps are exactly what I'm looking for. I suspect I need another season or two to fully get used to the power level, and then make my big moves then
3. What was your reasoning for the Tyler Herro trade?
I wanted cap space as fast as possible, and I honestly didn't think that Herro was doing enough for his salary and enough to work out well with a big centered offense. I didn't get the best parts back, but I'm willing to take a step back and evaluate Bam and Davis on their own merits before moving forward. I didn't want to pay more lux tax and I'd rather start hoarding cash for the later career camps and developing my bench through camps.
4. Without your picks over the next 2 seasons, how do you navigate this roster without also crippling the future even farther down the line?
I feel like there will be no more pick trades by me. Unless I can get cash and a high second round pick, I'm not sacrificing the future for this team unless I'm a top 2 record. When I get my picks back I'm looking for a big so I can mentor camp and move on from there. I'm very happy to scrap hunt and pick up guys who can fill in and get us into the playoffs in the interim, and I think there are plenty of those out there. One of the best ways for me to learn the file is to really grind out FA and draft studying, and I believe that this is the best path forward
5. If Bam offers to resign at the max this upcoming offseason, would you accept that deal with the deal that AD is holding?
I plan on throwing the max to Bam regardless. I'm going down with this two big ship, and I'll navigate the consequences later. Salaries in this league have always been a bit crazy to me, and with these new cap figures even more so. I'll figure it out later, it's a future me problem.
6. 2 seasons into the new league, what’s your thoughts on NBN being back? What’s the one thing that you missed the most while we were in our hiatus? What’s one thing you hope to see as we move forward?
The gm's here are still amazing and I'm so glad to play with this bunch moving forward. I regret how bad of a turn my life has taken over the past couple of years, I wish I was younger and living in better times so I could have dedicated more time with these amazing folks here. I'm not sure what I'd want to see moving forward - I've always loved my time here and had very few complaints outside a total lack of understand of rules by me sometimes.
7. Give me your thoughts on the contracts that we currently have throughout the league? In your opinion, is cap space as important as it used to be with the contracts that are being thrown around?
Yes and no. I think cap space is always important and stealing and player really upends the balance of the league. With these contracts being thrown around it may seem less valuable but I think that it's always nice to have and puts an element of danger out there for sure when you know someone can poach. I think that if I were starting from the ground up I'd keep my cap space open to try to amass cash still
8. With the lack of inflation currently throughout the league, what is one position that you think is the most valuable to build your team around and why?
These guards are insane. I think that guards are really strong right now, so maybe this year and next will be guard dominated. With that said, the bigs here are great too, and I feel as though they will start equalizing when inflation hits, although the guards will still be more important. Does not bode well for me.
9. Whether or not you have had any draft picks yet, what’s your thoughts on the 2 drafts we have had? Along the same lines, would you like to see more notes going forward?
Notes are one of the most fun parts of this league. I'm a sucker for them and always want more. I haven't really looked too deep into these classes, but I think for the most part I've always trusted the draft classes that are made here. Gun to my head, I'd rate these last draft classes around a 8 out of 10
10. What’s your honest opinion on interim GMs? Do you think it’s a downfall of the league or leagues can continue with a handful of GMs overseeing 2 teams?
I love interim GM's keeping the balance of the league by camping rookies that would otherwise be hampered and left behind by their peers. Likewise, I also think that resigning key free agents are 100% necessary for a balanced and healthy league, and interim GM's support that. I don't think that they should be able to make big trades with committee approval, or really ruin the roster with onerous contracts. With the right safeguards, interim GMs are a big key and asset to the league and balance
