1. You made a ton of big moves this offseason. Which one do you think was the most important? Maybe not the biggest deal or the best player, but which will impact your team the most?
I think the SGA was the most important because you need a high level PG to compete at a high level. Gobert/Allen are really good defensive bigs, but hoping SGA can be a top 5 PG. He’s been a tier below the elite in the first 2 seasons but he did go +2 in TC, so maybe he took a leap?
2. You are very high on Monte Leyva. What makes him so special and where does he fit into this stacked roster?
He has no weaknesses. I’m waiting for his scouts after this TC, but he’s a 3 level scorer, he can backup PG. He has strong handles and defender. My favorite thing is he’s a C+ rebounder and that’ll be a huge advantage. Right now I’m going to give him a shot to start but think that Bane is still a better option there and let him be a backup 1-3 and prime scorer off the bench.
3. Although your PG, SG, and SF can all score the ball at will, do you worry that your bigs won’t provide enough offense?
I’m not worried. If they can just give me 10-12 points and not kill me with inefficiency I’ll be happy. I’d rather let SGA, Bane, Barnes and Leyva do most of the scoring. Allen/Gobert aren’t incapable of scoring.
4. Explain your love affair with Taylor Hendricks.
He’s the first UCF lottery pick in our history. The only other NBA player we had was Jermaine Taylor of the Rockets who was a 2nd rounder in the mid 2000s. Hendricks was a lot of fun on his 1 year at UCF. He’s a PF who can shoot 3s and block a lot of shots in real life, but it hasn’t really translated in NBN. I’m going to do all I can to make him a worthwhile player though.
5. Although you have a full revamped roster, if you could add one player to your team, regardless of position, who would it be and why?
Wemby of course. Look at that Pre1 stat line. 20/15 and 5 stocks. I think he’d be the most fun player to have.
6. 2 seasons into the new league, what’s your thoughts on NBN being back? What’s the one thing that you missed the most while we were in our hiatus? What’s one thing you hope to see as we move forward?
I love that it’s back. It’s my #1 hobby and helps pass the time at work. Gives me something to be engaged with instead of scrolling Twitter or TikTok. I missed the competition and the friendly banter. I love talking trades and the strategy and analyzing draft prospects. Moving forward I’d just like to see the league get 29 active owners.
7. Give me your thoughts on the contracts that we currently have throughout the league? In your opinion, is cap space as important as it used to be with the contracts that are being thrown around?
I think it just takes some getting used to. Once the current contracts expire and everyone has gone through FA then it should normalize. I think getting a good MLE and getting worthwhile rookies will be a key to building a good roster. Every team will have 3 or so high salaried guys and the teams that can supplement them best will be best off. Kind of like the real NBA. I think cap space will always be important.
8. With the lack of inflation currently throughout the league, what is one position that you think is the most valuable to build your team around and why?
It’s always PG. For the most part they are the only guys putting up huge stat lines. There are obviously other variables but the easiest route to having a good team is have an elite PG
9. Whether or not you have had any draft picks yet, what’s your thoughts on the 2 drafts we have had? Along the same lines, would you like to see more notes going forward?
I think the drafts were fine. It was a little shocking at first to see how lowly rated some prospect were, but as long as it remains consistent that way then I’m fine with it. I always love draft notes so I’ll always be in favor of more notes. I do like that none of them have been out of hand yet and I’m good with a bunch of smaller notes.
10. What’s your honest opinion on interim GMs? Do you think it’s a downfall of the league or leagues can continue with a handful of GMs overseeing 2 teams?
I have no problem with it. I don’t see the issue. It gives the league 29 teams to trade with. As long as there’s no collusion (there won’t be) then I don’t see how it’s not a positive over an open team. I also am in favor of interim team playing the hand that team is dealt and not necessarily just tank away either. Having all interim teams just tank lowers the competition level of the league. For the Pistons I think they should be a good team after tanking for a while and not owning their pick. I put them in position to add to the competitive level of the East but also kept all of their picks and prospects and even added a future pick. I wouldn’t start moving future pieces though. I don’t think interim GMs main teams are getting any kind of advantage out of it.
