1. You fell short in the playoffs last year and were upset against the Lakers. What do you think was the main reason why that occured?
My team shot like shit. My team was very inconsistent last year and had many games shooting over 50% and then stinkers in the 30s. I thought I had 4 good wing scorers and then just defense/rebounding bigs would work out great. I built a lot of my previous title teams in that mold. In the end I didn’t have enough consistent offensive firepower to keep up with LAL.
2. You made a big trade to bring in Zion. What do you think he brings to the table that last year's roster didn't have?
Kind of continuing on the previous question. I needed more offensive firepower. Zion has his flaws but he is probably the most efficient offensive big in the league with a FG% always hovering near 50%. I was pleasantly surprised he went up to B/B from B-/B- in def/reb in TC. I think him being paired with Gobert/Allen makes a ton of sense. They aren’t zeros offensively, but are more of just put back scorers. I think I have a chance to be a top 3 offense in the league this year with Zion
3. I think it's safe to say that on paper, you have the best roster out West. What other team, if any, scares you the most to challenge you at the top?
Gotta be the Lakers. They beat me last year and I need revenge. I think the top of the East is stronger than the West, but think West is pretty strong top to bottom. Ja/SGA is a great matchup. Reeves/Leyva match up pretty well with Reeves having more volume and upside. I don’t know that LAL will have an answer for Zion this year (atleast that’s my hope)
4. Carter Bryant was your first round pick this season. What was it about him that made you feel comfortable with the selection?
I scouted like 3 bigs and they were all basically the same with each having one strength and one weakness. Bryant had a very solid overall game and his weakness was handles which I thought was the least of the weaknesses of the guys I was looking at. After TC im very happy with the selection. My roster is very top heavy and I really was looking for a guy who could play spot minutes immediately for cheap and I think he can do that.
5. Bane was a disappointment last season, which made room for Levya to take over at SG. Do you think he has what it takes offensively to be enough on a title contender?
That’s the question! His overall game is so good, but idk if he has the athleticism to be a 20+ ppg scorer. With him realistically being my 4th option I hope that won’t be an issue. Be efficient (career 46%), don’t turn it over(high handles), play good D (B+ D), grab 7 rebounds should be enough. I’m using these last camps to try and pump up his athleticism and he’s still only 21 that I hopefully volume will come as he matures and gets a few more TCs. He’s increased every one so far..
6. Heading into season 4, the Sixers will be looking for a three peat, which has only happened once, dating back to the original NBN. If there is 1 team out there who can take the defending champs down, who is it and why?
I mean I hope it’s Grizz. I think the other main competition is Raptors. Brunson was a huge pickup for them. No one can match Maxey, but Brunson/Wemby vs Maxey/Embiid is atleast a conversation and the Raptors have 3 other good starters too.
7. We've seen some top prospects struggle early on since the league has restarted, especially after some rough training camps. What are your thoughts on how the draft classes have looked on the court? Is the lack of success a product of the drafts or the randomness of FBB?
A couple of lotto picks haven’t progressed as hoped but there’s been some real pops too. Collier/Flagg are superstars. I think the thing is the drafts have had 1-2 “stars” but the rest of the lotto have been pretty equal. There hasn’t been much difference between prospect #3 and #10 so they could have been drafted in any order. I’ve really liked the way it’s played out so far and think it’s been good. Not every top 3 pick needs to turn into an Allstar
8. We have not seen the worst regular season team be gifted the number 1 pick in the draft so far. Do you think there's to say that maybe full on tanking isn't necessary or even worth it with the way our lotteries have fallen so far?
We’ve only had 1 true super duper star enter the draft (Flagg). Beyond that you can grab a really nice prospect at just about any spot in the lotto. You don’t need to totally bottom out, but it’s still nice to put yourself in that position for when a super duper star is in the draft. Theres multiple ways to go about rebuilding and it would be nice if every rebuilding team didn’t take the same approach of completely nuking their roster. So it’s been nice to see how it’s played out so far .
9. There has been some discussion about potentially bringing PED camps back to the league. What's your thoughts on a) the camp itself and b) would it immediately lead to a more inflated league? Would there be a way we could introduce it that would be beneficial to the health of the league?
I didn’t use it much in the previous leagues, so I don’t mind it not being here. I want to try and keep the league as deflated as possible for as long as possible. It’s a tough line to walk of not having people take advantage of it, but also making it worthwhile. I don’t know the right answer for how to introduce it to the league and make it make sense.
10. Bam Adebayo was given a max deal that will pay him over 70 mil in his last year. With where a player has to be experience wise to be given a contract like this, can you foresee any players that are worth 70 million in the future? Who and why?
It’s going to be tough to have a player making 70mil and filling out the roster around him. What’s going to end up happening is that the teams will be trying to compete for the first years of those max deals and then either rebuild in the 2nd half of the contract or pay to unload them to a tanking team. Once we get more and more of these contracts, there will be less cap space overall in the league and maybe they won’t be handed out as much? To have a player making 70mil, they would have to be an all league type of player and 1-2 rookie contract guys that are big contributors . Something like the Wizards with Collier/Flagg could effort a 70mil guy for 1-2 seasons. Or you’d have to have a bench full of rookie contract guys. It’s going to be very tough to pull off and would probably need a very skilled GM who can make it work.
