1. First offseason in the new league and you jump up to the first spot in the lotto. Did you ever really debate not taking Boozer?
I looked at all options. I leaned heavily towards Boozer heading into the draft once I lucked into the #1 pick. I did my due diligence on JaKobe Walter, who looked like he already had a great base. But with the condition my team was in I was willing to play the long game and allow Boozer's potential to develop outweigh other options.
2. Speaking of Boozer, what do you think his ceiling is after his hot start in the preseason and regular season sim 1?
I have been doing this long enough to not be too swayed by any preseason results. But I do think Boozer is going to be a very good player in this league. Without any camps he is already playing at a high level. He doesn't turn the ball over too much, he will be an effective scorer. His rebounding should end up as one the top ratings he has. But of course he will not create many stocks. You take the overall good with the one bad. I believe Boozer will be a top big in the league in many categories.
3. Vrenz and Caleb were your other 2 picks in this past draft. Will either of them develope enough offensively to make a difference on a good team?
I believe they do have the potential to develop into important pieces for a good team. Vrenz has the draft notes that will help his game offensively. I was very happy to grab Foster early in the second round. Knowing his downside would be his shooting I could focus his DITR camp in the Jump Shot and 3pt Shot categories. He had true A potential leading into the draft, which means he has the capability to develop organically as well. With some other scoring oriented camps, I think Foster will turn out to be a very good player.
4. You inherited Khaman Maluach, who has the makeup of an elite big. Putting him aside Boozer and Filipowski, where do you rank this trio in terms of young bigs in the league?
Right now, they have a long way to go. But if they all develop as they should, then they could be a formidable trio for sure. I would rely on the Maluach to anchor the defense. Oddly enough he should be able to stretch the game out on the offensive side allowing Boozer to work in the paint. Filipowski as a 6th man will be a nice offensive balance off the bench. They should blend very nicely together.
5. What's your goals for this season and what type of playes will you look to bring in during the next offseason?
At this point, with my 1st being the only pick I own, tanking once again. Securing another stud young player to pair with my roster would be very helpful. I am not as familiar with the players that can potentially be in the next draft, so I am not sure what to expect. As for the next offseason, I would like to add some competitive talent. After two seasons of rebuilding I am sure I will be ready (of boredom) to try and field a competitive team.
6. Heading into season 4, the Sixers will be looking for a three peat, which has only happened once, dating back to the original NBN. If there is 1 team out there who can take the defending champs down, who is it and why?
That is tough. I mean Maxey and Embiid are a ridiculous combo. With Vassell and the addition of Bane the 76ers should have every opportunity to remain squarely in the hunt for the next title. But if I had to chose one team that could end that run, I believe it would be the Raptors at this point. Wemby is a freak and may be one of the only players that can potentially match up with Embiid in the paint. The addition of Brunson should also help improve the offense. He may not match Maxey blow for blow, but he is a solid option none the less.
7. We've seen some top prospects struggle early on since the league has restarted, especially after some rough training camps. What are your thoughts on how the draft classes have looked on the court? Is the lack of success a product of the drafts or the randomness of FBB?
I would say the top of the classes have panned out fairly well. I have only been here for the most recent draft, but looking back at the past two drafts and write ups I would say most of the elite prospects look promising. Sarr, Flagg, and Boozer look like they will be some of the better players in the league. Wagner is already a stud, Topic can be very good with some turnover control. Of the total bunch, maybe Buzelis and Maluach look like they won't be top tier players. But they both still look like they will be very good. Overall it is always FBB randomness, but I don't think the classes have panned out that bad.
8. We have not seen the worst regular season team be gifted the number 1 pick in the draft so far. Do you think there's to say that maybe full on tanking isn't necessary or even worth it with the way our lotteries have fallen so far?
Tanking is quite literally gambling. Your luck comes down to lottery balls (so to speak). I think there is always the possibility that your pick can jump if it is in the lottery, but I am still one who believes in full on tanking. Obviously that is a little easier to say when you just tanked and landed the #1 pick. It won't always work out that way, quite honestly it's highly unlikely that it will again. It just depends on where your roster is at. With a clean slate I will always chose to tank over taking decent pieces and hoping to jump in the lottery.
9. There has been some discussion about potentially bringing PED camps back to the league. What's your thoughts on a) the camp itself and b) would it immediately lead to a more inflated league? Would there be a way we could introduce it that would be beneficial to the health of the league?
I was one who certainly used PED camps in the past. At that time, there was no downside to using the camp if you were tanking. You could get a +5 to a top young player and at worst possibly have them sit out a year if caught and help you obtain a worse record. I know we installed a different set of rule before ultimately getting rid of the camp. I do like it, with that being said I think it is better off not being an option in the league to try and tamp down inevitable inflation. Unless we were to lessen the benefit and harshen the punishment. That is the only way I could see it working.
10. Bam Adebayo was given a max deal that will pay him over 70 mil in his last year. With where a player has to be experience wise to be given a contract like this, can you foresee any players that are worth 70 million in the future? Who and why?
I had the opportunity to offer Bam a max, I wasn't anywhere close to that number. Though it was my first time bidding in the league with an increased salary cap compared to our previous leagues. With that being said, I don't have a problem with the Bam contract. The positive is there will always be tankers like me. When it comes time for Bam to be in the final year of his deal, there will be a team with a ton of cap who is tanking and will take his salary on for some cash in return. As long as you can keep a stash of cash, you can likely get out from the last year of the deal.
