1. You hit on both of your 1st round picks last year with Reid and Pettiford. 5 years down the road, what type of players do these guys turn into?
Yes, I was quite thrilled that I was able to draft both players and that they turned out to have amazing rookie seasons. Reid was able to make the all-star game which was hilarious and basically only due to how weak the Western Conference options at the position were, but still! Pettiford surprised me by winning ROY, I really figured it would be Cadeau with the Bucks taking home that award.
5 Years down the road I could see Reid being a solid 20/12 type player that is pretty efficient, a 3rd option type of scorer on a good team. He likely won't average enough stocks to be looked at as a T1 type player but I think he will have a good long career as a plus starter. As for Pettiford, if he can get his handles in check, then he could be a top-tier PG. I'm hoping he becomes a very efficient mid 20's, pushing 10 APG guy.
2. You made a somewhat controversial trade this offseason to acquire Trey Murphy III. Why did you feel that deal was best suited for your team?
I'm not sure if it was best suited or the right time to make such an acquisition and that is probably why it was controversial. However, I just love the guy, I've wanted to have him for a few seasons now. He checks all the boxes for me and I think SF is a very hard position to fill in this league. So, he's is an extremely efficient scorer, solid enough defender, doesn't turn the ball over and he gets a good amount of rebounds. At only 26 years old, he should be one of my better players for many playoff runs.
3. Reed Sheppard hasn't shown anything to prove he was worth a long contract, but you gave him one anyway. What did you see that you felt made him worth that deal?
I mean, I felt that deal was totally fair for a backup SG/PG sub and the bones were there for such a player. He might just have to go through a little bit of camping in order to reach that point and I didn't mind taking that on. He would be getting a lot of minutes on my roster one way or the other. Instead he had a pretty good training camp and his super camp really elevated his scoring output. He looks like a steal on that contract now.
4. Xavier Booker didn't have the flashy attributes in this draft, but you took him at 6. What did Booker show you that made you feel comfortable taking him that early?
I feel like Booker will be a game changer defensively and will eventually be a very strong rebounder as well. Overall, he paired quite nicely with Reid to help cover up his weaknesses (stocks). Another reason I took him was that I was a big fan of a few players in the draft but they were taken before #6. I was then tempted to take potentially a SF who could be mentored by Murphy, but in the end, I think Booker will pan out better.
5. A season removed from trading Wemby. Give me your thoughts on that deal where both rosters stand now.
I mean the Raptors look a lot better then I thought they would. I figured they would struggle with the cap but Yourkers has been able to keep trading and everything has worked out amazing and Wemby has continued to develop into one of the best players in the league.
As for my team, I'm happy with how everything looks right now. I think I'm about to start a pretty decent run. Could I be better off with Wemby? Perhaps. I had fun with a few drafts though and picks at higher positions then I would have been able to get if I had Wemby. I enjoyed playing with the assets and making some trades. I really like some of the players I have now.
6. Heading into season 4, the Sixers will be looking for a three peat, which has only happened once, dating back to the original NBN. If there is 1 team out there who can take the defending champs down, who is it and why?
I'll pick the Kings, who knows what would have happened last season if Fox stayed healthy. They are also posting some very nice numbers this season, especially with their defense. I like a lot of their players and honestly, I worry about the 76ers depth.
7. We've seen some top prospects struggle early on since the league has restarted, especially after some rough training camps. What are your thoughts on how the draft classes have looked on the court? Is the lack of success a product of the drafts or the randomness of FBB?
I think Rog has done a great job with the classes so far. I like that there haven't been many players that have came in and been good instantly. It's hard to do but I think it's more enjoyable in a way, it has made tanking and rebuilding via the draft more difficult. It puts more emphasis on trading and managing free agency, you kind of have to do everything in order to build up a good team.
8. We have not seen the worst regular season team be gifted the number 1 pick in the draft so far. Do you think there's to say that maybe full on tanking isn't necessary or even worth it with the way our lotteries have fallen so far?
The next 2-3 #1 projected will probably win the lottery, good job. As you're tanking now. Nice one.
9. There has been some discussion about potentially bringing PED camps back to the league. What's your thoughts on a) the camp itself and b) would it immediately lead to a more inflated league? Would there be a way we could introduce it that would be beneficial to the health of the league?
Gross, pass, unnecessary inflation.
10. Bam Adebayo was given a max deal that will pay him over 70 mil in his last year. With where a player has to be experience wise to be given a contract like this, can you foresee any players that are worth 70 million in the future? Who and why?
I thought I was insane for offering 5y max at 10%, but with my rookie contract players and Sheppard/Joe at the time being pretty cheap at my SG position - I thought, hey, why not, I can afford one giga deal. I don't think it is wise to give out a contract like that unless it's for one of the ~5 best players in the league. I imagine guys like Maxey/Wemby, you know, that tier - will get that kind of contract and that's fine. It's perfectly fine if the 2nd player on your roster is going to be a guy early on a rookie max as well.
