1. Even with the B- defense, Porzingis has been a revelation and has helped your team towards the top of the defensive rankings. What makes him so special even if the ratings aren't there to back it up?
I think it may be due to his size and playing up at the PF position. Hes been great and it sucks hes injured now but will be back for the playoffs. I really brought him back for that offense since hes B B and i think thats valuable, but he has shown hes more than just that.
2. You decided to bid a bit lower on JHS and even thought he was overpaid after free agency, yet you traded for him early on. What changed your mind and are you happy with how he is playing on the big contract?
It was swinging and missing at my other FA targets that made me have to pull the trigger and bring him back. I still dont think hes worth the contract but he hasnt gotten to play his true position so i dont really know what he brings to the table. Hes been solid for us filling in at Sf tho and hes an overall solid player.
3. You have some massive financial decisions after this season with Ja and Reaves. If you could only bring one of them back, who would it be and why?
yeah this offseason is going to make or break us. If i had to pick its JA, PG rules the league and i can easily slide JHS to the Sg spot and be content with what i have. Obviously the goal is to bring back the big 3 long term.
4. You have had some serious success over the last couple of seasons but haven't been able to get over the hump. Give me your best pitch as to why this team can get it done and win it all?
It feels good to be competitive consistently, the hump has been a big wall called the Kings. Silver just continues to knock me out before i can make the finals. I think we have shown even this season we can compete with the big boys but it’s going to take not getting injured to get there. First it was reaves for 30+ days and now KP is out. If we are fully healthy i think we can compete with anyone.
5. Have you thought about upgrading any aspects of your bench, especially with the injury to Reaves? If so, what type of player are you looking to target?
I tried to mimic similar moves like last year but i didn't like any expirings to help improve for as cheap as i wanted. I was happy to not go crazy and find a replacement for reaves. We won a lot of games without him and that made me very optimistic for next year if we lose him in FA.
6. It seems like we have over half of the league not actively trying to compete. This has always been an issue, but can you think of a way to incentivize teams to try and win a bit more?
Idk i think it’s tough, i like the idea of getting paid cash for wins and having guys make the ASG and End of the season awards. If more than half the league tries to tank at once you're really not helping yourself if youre not a top 4 tanker IMO. Seen the same teams hover around top 10 for seasons now and it just doesnt work or they fold and go all in for 1 year and are consistently back to square one. I like tanking and think every so often it is needed but it’s also fun to compete so i have no issue with teams choosing what they wanna do.
7. There have been some huge trades since the start of the new league that have netted 6, 7, or 8 firsts for a player. Do you think the value of a first rounder has decreased or are teams just star hunting while inflation hasn't kicked in yet?
I think the value for firsts are down IMO. If you get a 3-4 year out first from yourk or UCf it’s not going to amount to much cause theyre not going to tank without their pick. I also dont think a lot of teen to late first picks have turned into much so unless youre in the top 10 and i could be wrong, i just dont think its worth it. Look at charles for example. Moved the best player in the league for picks and hasnt done much since. Hang onto that young talent unless you can get an extreme haul for them which is rare.
8. PGs still reign supreme in FBB's eyes, but the value of a big man has stayed super high with the new league. If you had to choose between a guy like Tyrese Maxey or Victor Wembanyama to start your team with, who would it be and why?
I'll take Maxey if we are starting brand new fresh. I think my teams over the last couple of seasons show you can have ok Big men and compete. Dont get me wrong wemby is a stud but i guy like Maxey makes 2-3-4-5 position better by spreading the floor and getting assists.
9. All of the top rookies had pretty good TCs to start their careers. With your current roster build, if you could take any rookie off another team, who would it be and why?
It’s got to be SF AJ Dybantsa. 1 because my team could use a legit Sf but secondly hes already a top SF in the league. I saw the nets get him and Arenas and was like wow theyre going to be set for a long time. Im glad some of these top picks are finally flurishing early cause the league needs more Young talent at the top.
10. Give me your East winner, West winner, and Championship winner predictions half way through the season?
East im not going to sleep on Dash but man i hope we get to see Wemby vs Jokic in a series. I'll say the Sixers come out again. 3 time champ and just added one of the best Centers in the league.
West is interesting, Grizz are studs and the kings always have my number but i think this is the year i make the Finals. Stay healthy all year and we may be competiing with the top seed in the west.
Champs and for the 4th straight year is the Sixers, Carlos does it again. Getting Jokic solidified that.
