Slough: So you went from nearly making a title run and very close to blowing everything up why?
Yourkers: Put myself in a hole I wasn't going to be able to get out of unless I made some drastic moves. It was unfortunate that I didn't have another choice but here we are. Now I can suck for a few years and build something of substance. Should be fun building through the draft and watching the players grow together. That's always the fun part of this game. So even though I no longer have wemb I will still find something to look forward to.
Is mintz and McCain the best young back court in the league and why do you think so? Do you think your lack of a SF could hurt you come playoff time?
Slough: I think they will be close to top 3 in my opinion just based on all around talent as not only do they score, but I think they are very good in rebounding and defense.
The lack of SF can be interesting why I got Ausar, but its a work in progress to see the right DC as I still have Tarrant and I traded for Vassell as well.
You could have ran it back, what was the thought process in trading your guy in Wemb?
Yourkers: I kind of answered that last question. I put myself in a hole and I wouldn't have managed to get myself out of it unless I made big trades. So that is what I did. But let's be real why run it back? I got knocked out in the 2nd round 2 straight years so what I had wasn't working. Who knows if I could have made the proper trades to get over the hump. You would think with a guy like Wemb we could have done more but that wasn't the case. So I decided with my situation and lack of movable assets to just start over. I get more out of building talent anyways so this way will give me more satisfaction.
6-2 start. How happy are you with how your team is starting?
McCain is under 2 turnovers per game at the moment. How satisfying must that be to see?
Slough: 6-2 isn't bad, funny one loss is to the last place Bucks, so at minimum think should be 7-1 if not 8-0 to start, but I am good with the team to start off 6-2. Keeps me on pace for my prediction of top 4 in the East for the year, but there is room for improvement.
McCain on the low turnovers is by plan as I don't put him as a top option, but his scoring is lower than I expected however. I guess the trade off is fine, but thought he would be closer to 24-25ppg even with the bottom portion of options. I think I didn't expect the volume that Lauri would put up, which I am not complaining on since he is a beast off the bench and just shoots the shit out of the ball as the top super sub. I mean, he is 6th man of the year easily through 8 games so far lol.
Any particular players you are looking to draft in the next few years? You already had Wemb, but which player would you love to land coming up?
Yourkers: really don't know any of the young guys that are coming out but if we continue down this route adding in some old school players I would love to get Manu ginobili. He was my favorite player of all time. He was a shifty left handed player who made the game so cool and when I balled I tired to play just like him. So a chance to grab him I would be thrilled. Len Bias and Benji Wilson as the ones who never made it and to give them a chance to be amazing would be by far cool af to do. I put them in the NBA 2k era draft and made sure I got both lol. Drazen Petrovic is the other. As you can see there's a trend here lol. He never got to reach his full potential but here in the NBN he will get his chance to do so. So yeah I will be excited to see them hit the draft page.
What do you think of your front court duo of Sengun and Lauri. Do they have what it takes to dominate come playoff time?
Slough: So far its amazing, I have been using Lauri as the super sub and he seems to get a ton of touches off the bench leading the team in scoring C/PF/SF and likely the favorite for 6th man of the year if he stays at this position. Sengun has been about as expected, really just want him to be a walking double/double with steals and blocks. So far, so good, but efficiency could be better. I think both are great for a title run.
Any shows or Movies out there you recommend? If so what makes them a good watch?
I am re-watching Yellowstone actually, probably one of the best shows of all time besides Breaking Bad! I would say if haven't watched Suits would be a good one to start watching, as far as movies, I would say Dune, built best movie in awhile tbh.
Lauri and Sengun have been great! Lauri as a super sub is where its at and Sengun just does his thing.
Any sports or hobbies, or movies/shows you are watching or looking forward to?
Yourkers: I am watching power right now and the show is killer and don't know why I waited so long to watch it. I will be watching your honor once I finish the power series(go into the secondary power shows after that one). As for sports I can't wait for football season to start again. One more month to preseason and then to watch Jordan love to take the next step in his game gonna be amazing. Plus the College football playoffs going to 12 teams is gonna be unreal. Notre Dame should make it and have a chance but to see the mid majors finally get their shine is what I am looking forward to.
Who do you see winning the college football playoffs this year?
When the fuck with the Seattle Supersonics be back in the NBA????? It's been too damn long!!!!!
Slough: I honestly have no idea, I think its going to be a blood bath with all the changes with conferences, adding in 12 teams now, its going to be crazy, not to mention you have Texas and Oklahoma going to the SEC, Oregon and UW going to Big Ten, so all the travel and different types games along with weather will make it pretty interesting. Probably have to go with Georgia, Ohio St., Texas at the top, but like I said, so many new QB's, transfers, its going to be interesting, not to mention all the coaching changes.
Yeah, its bullshit the Sonics aren't back yet, I don't get that one at all. It's a great sports town, and they have a ton of history with all the players and a title. Plus, it would make perfect since with the renovations for the Kraken arena, hopefully in the next few years they get an expansion or something, I would rather have that instead of stealing somebody else's team.
Curious, you ever play NCAA Football back in the day? I can't wait for it come out, I always thought it was a better game than Madden, especially with the option play and building your way up through different conferences. In College A. Silver and neighbors we had this giant franchise with 10 of us to where we would battle each other in different matches between classes, haha
I have never seen Power, always wondered if it was good, will have to check it out since I finished Yellowstone again.
What are your thoughts on the start of this season so far?
Who do you think are the top 3 teams to make a run this year for a title and GMOTY?
Yourkers: This season is going as I expected as we suck and that's what I was hoping for. We are looking like we could have a top 5 pick and that is what I am hoping for and with some luck I can jump to 1. Don't see many surprises outside the grizz being awful right now. They shouldn't be this bad or maybe this shows that Barnes is really damn good. Nice to see some newer teams at the top of the standings. It's always good to see new teams competing after sitting back for a year or two.
Top 3 teams to make a run would be the Thunder because I am biased and they have wemb and feel him paired with Brunson again makes for a great duo and makes them very dangerous. Can never bet against the 76ers when you have maxey and jokic on the same team that team will always be dangerous when it comes to a 7 games series. Lastly I like the Kings. Murray taking that next step males this team scary good. Also sherrell is a perfect fit next to claxton and they have a great starting 5 to take down anyone.
Now for gmoty I got you as the front runner because you have went from a lottery pick to a top tier team who could be tue surprise of the year because I expected you to be good but not great like you have been. 2nd I go with the warriors because I loved them getting green last year and now add Wagner to fill out the starting 5 was a big time move. Lastly the Thunder because when you get wemb and your team takes that big step forward you will fet recognized for that.
Did you see yourself being a top the East to start the first portion of the year?
Who do you feel will be your biggest challenge out East and who do you see being your biggest test out west?
Slough: I expected to be around top 4, but didn't expect to be 18-4 to start, especially with some stats that I have. Definitely a well balanced team, but I did expect some better shooting percentages from McCain, still early and I haven't camped him yet, so likely going with shooting. I think the rebounding and defense is the biggest surprise that has kept me near the top.
In the East I would say the Sixers and Hawks, not to mention can't count out Rog in the Magic with that team, should be interested on a run in the playoffs, but one thing you that helps teams go far is rebounding and good defense.
Out West like you mentioned the Thunder and the Kings, should be interesting how both of those teams fair in the playoffs. The Lakers are interesting as well, and I wouldn't count out Grizz for making a run like he normally does.
Figure we can finish this up today, do you have a certain time frame for your rebuild and getting back competitively?
Last question, what would you say your Packers and Notre Dame will finish like this year?
Yourkers: Good question. I think the packers will have an improved record and with Jordan love being ready and comfortable we will win 11 games and make the playoffs. Feel this year we can make it to the nfc championship game and just fall short of the super bowl. As for notre dame I like them to win 10 games and make the 12 team playoff. See us winning a game or two but when we face the top tier teams we will struggle and it won't be close like it always seems to be. But I am very excited for the new format no matter how good Notre dame does.
Good talking with you as always Slough and till next time. I'll leave you with this last question. Do you see Mintz and McCain being together forever or will you do the usual and break it all down at some point?
Slough: Definitely always good having a chat back n forth. As for the last question, I would love to say yes, but you know me, trading and building teams is always one of the best parts about this league. I will never say never on keeping teams together, but Mintz and McCain should be a formidable duo for a long time, just matters what might happen with salaries and how all that will play out. Definitely helps that that McCain is on his rookie contract at the moment for the next three seasons.
Yourkers: Put myself in a hole I wasn't going to be able to get out of unless I made some drastic moves. It was unfortunate that I didn't have another choice but here we are.
