1. You took home your first title and stopped Carlos from winning his 4th in a row last season. How did that feel and did you think your team was good enough to take down Goliath?
It was great for multiple reasons. I just wanted to get 1 under my belt so I didn’t have the pressure of having never won one. Especially since I feel like I’ve had title worthy teams the past few seasons. Also I couldn’t let Carlos get 4 in a row as that would be an untouchable feat (3 in a row might already be). I need to keep some type of hope alive that me or someone else could catch him.
2. Your season has not started the way you were expecting (I'm assuming). What do you think is the reason for the slow start? Do you have any moves in your back pocket or think you just need to figure out lineups?
Almost everyone is having a down year in some way. Allen is down in rebounding, Zion in FG%, Leyva FG%. SGA only one playing to par. I think we miss Scottie’s defense and rebounding that really made us elite. Also some bad luck. We have a decent size point differential and we had more road games to start. As far as moves, I think I’m just tinkering with options and settings. I don’t see any big trades now that I’m out of assets after the Sarr trade
3. You made the inseason move for Dame Sarr. Why did you feel that was the right move and do you think he's fit in well with the team? What's your thoughts on his contract past this season?
I knew I needed scoring option. Sarr isn’t necessarily the type of SF I go for, but I didn’t have a lot of options with my cap situation. I paid a lot but Sarr’s 3mil salary allowed me to keep the rest of my lineup and make an allstar addition. His salary this season was key. I think he gives me the scoring I need and I’m hoping SGA/Leyva plus rebounding will hide some of his weakness.
Past this season we will see. Assuming he commands a max contract I’ll have to max a roster move. I also have Allen expiring too. I’m not sure who will be the odd man out but I’m expecting roster changes this offseason.
4. I feel that SGA has been on the trade block over the last few seasons. After his first ASG nod, what has made you want to move him in recent years?
It’s really just a salary cap thing. Zion is the best at his position so I don’t want to move him. I have a love affair with Leyva. After that SGA is my other big contract and so he’s the one “on the block”. I haven’t really come close to moving him yet, but this offseason may be the time
5. With your big rotation (minus zion) all on expiring contracts, what's your plan past this season to fill out that part of your team knowing you'll need to pay Sarr?
My team will probably be shuffled up. I’d love to resign Bruno on cheap as I like him as my 3rd big. It would be great for Carter Bryant can step into a big role next season but I’m not sure if he’s more than a role player. I think this offseason my roster could look vastly different than it has the past few seasons
6. Half way through the year, give me your East winner, West winner, and who will take home the NBN title this season.
76ers and Kings. I’m taking 76ers until I see otherwise. The Kings 2 man duo of Fox/Murray is just insane. How the hell did Murray become elite? Claxton at 4+ blocks per game too?!?
7. We are starting to mix some vets into the drafts going forward. What is your thought on this and who are some players that you are excited to see soon?
I love it. Love seeing the guys from the 90s and 2000s. Beyond the Heat guys and Knight Cantin. I always had a weird love affair with Monta Ellis.
8. Although we are getting some nice ones in the drafats, shooting guards seem tough to find around the league. Do you think it's an unfortunate development issue once they are in the league or they are not being built for success pre draft, which is making it tough for them to progress?
Um idk? Off the top of my head is Leyva and Wagner the best SGs to be drafted so far? SGs have so much more scoring burden then any other position and with Roger (rightfully so) making the SGs come in with like a B C build or a C+ B- build I guess it makes sense. It’s also nice not having 10 SGs scoring 30+ and allows guys like Leyva to be really impactful at 20+ but giving you good defense and elite rebounding
9. With the NFL season right around the corner, who is your favorite NFL team and what are you expectations of them going into the season?
Dolphins! I’m expecting them to do what they have done the past few seasons. Be really fun on offense and start fast and fade down the stretch and squeak into the playoffs. At the end of last season I was really down on Tua and the way the season ended. I’m hoping he can win me back this year
10. Real life NBA. What's your thoughts on Bronny James and him going to the Lakers? In your opinion, does he have a future in the NBA?
He’s not an NBA player from what I’ve seen. I don’t have a problem with the nepotism. NBA owes LeBron more than having his kid drafted for all he’s done for the league. My problem is more with ESPN and the media just talking about him 24/7. I haven’t watched ESPN in years because I hate what it’s become.
