Prize: Top 3 take portion of pool

*If pool reaches +$3000*

4th Place gets 5%
5th Place gets 5%
*Ties result in split of percentage
Ex. 1st place tie results in 85% split into 42.5% for both players erasing 2nd place. Another example is a 3rd place tie gives 7.5% cut to both players.
Extra Money Pool:
$500 extra for up to 9 participants
$1000 for +10 participants
Due: Before Regular Season Sim 1 (unless otherwise stated)
Please send PM to me (cop5414 ) titled "2029 W/L (*insert team name*)
*There is no need to post your list to this thread, I will however post mine here in fairness to getting to see everyone else's lists.*
Rules:
This is a prediction game based on ranking the end of the regular season standings. Participants will rank team #1-29 simply based on the thought of highest to lowest wins for the season.
*Note: Participants do not have to predict the number of wins*
Scoring:
It'll be by the way of golf, as in the low score wins. At the end of the season points will be calculated based on how far away the final results are from the prediction. Scoring follows as:
i) -2 for correct ranking
ii) +1 or more for incorrect ranking
iii) Here is a quick example sheet:
Participant's selection: Final Results:
1. 76ers. (-2) 1. 76ers [65-17]
2. Kings. (+1) 2. Wizards [63-19]
3. Jazz. (+7) 3. Kings [57-25]
4. Wizards. (+2) 4.Mavericks [56-26]
5. Lakers. (-2) 5. Lakers [50-32]
6. Pistons. (+1) 6.Rockets [49-33]
7. Rockets. (+1) 7. Pistons [44-38]
8. Mavericks. (+4) 8. Grizzlies [41-41]
9. Knicks. (-2) 9. Knicks [39-43]
10. Grizzlies. ( +2) 10. Jazz [38-44]
Final score is 12. If this is the lowest score among participants then this wins.
Ties:
There is one other thing that can effect scoring, that being records that end in a tie. The scoring for this scenario can be both beneficial and punishable in a sense.
Usually, if let's say three teams were to tie for 14th then all 14th, 15th ,16th places would become ranked 14th. The next team will be ranked 17th, which is three places back. So if one of those teams were originally predicted to finsh 17th they'd lose three points. However, any teams ranked 14th, 15th or 16th would be a correct answer for -2 points.
iv) Example sheet for result of a tie:
Participant's selection: Final Results:
12. Cavaliers (+1) 12. Hornets [46-36]
13. Hornets (+1) 13.Cavaliers [45-37]
14. Clippers (-2) 14.Clippers [42-40]
15. Pelicans (+4) 15.Hawks [42-40]
16. Pacers (-2) 16. Pacers[42-40]
17. Hawks (+3) 17. Spurs [40-42]
18. Spurs (+1) 18. Pelicans [37-45]
End score for this section is 6. Notice the Clippers and Pacers wereboth predicted to rank within 14th to 16th, so they both are correct rankings. The Pelicans lost 4 points instead of 3, and the Hawks lost three points instead of 1 as on a technicality their actual ranking would be 14th.
Buy Back In Rule:
v) Once per season, usable up until Day 80 (before Sim 17) teams can pay an additional $50 towards the pool to acquire 3 swaps to change the order on their rankings.
How do swaps work? They are direct swaps. So let's say midway through the season you feel a team you had ranked 20th has higher odds to finish in that 10-12 range. You could possibly swap the 20th《》11th to reduce your point. However, this might not be the best solution as it might put your 11th ranked team in a worse postion. There could be multiple ways to game the system.
vi) "Buy Back In" example sheet
Participant's selection: Current Standings:
10. Raptors 10. Raptors
11. Kings. 11. Rockets
12. Pistons 12.Warriors
13. Timberwolves 13.Kings
14. Warriors. 14. Bucks
15. Jazz. 15.Timberwolves
16. Bucks 16. Pistons
17. Mavericks. 17. Magic
18. Magic. 18. Celtics
19. Nets. 19. Mavericks
20. Rockets. 20. Nets
21. Celtics. 21. Jazz
So here you can see the Rockets would cost (+9) points, so with the "Buy Back In" they could possibly reduce it all or at least at portion. The player could simply swap the Kings and Rockets but that move would ultimatley reduce it from (+9) -> (+7).
Another option would be for the player to swap the Rockets and the Pistons first: making the Rockets (12th) and the Pistons (20th).
Then they could Swap the Pistons and the Mavericks to: Pistons (17th) and Mavericks (20th). This would make what was originally costing at the time (+15) be reduced to (+4).
Swaps could be used for simple reductions or possibly keep particpants from getting screwed over huge by one big score from a team that either suffered every injury known to man or had a GM spontaneously decided to sell and go for the tank.
How to Swap:
To acquire swaps, at any point during the season before Sim 17 post here in this thread, "+$50". Then send a PM to me (cop5414 ) of your swaps.
What is needed in the PM are two things:
A) A list of your swaps numbered [1.2.3.] in chronological order
B) The 2nd is a copy of your new list with the teams whose position change bolded.
When I myself, use a swap I will post it here on the thread to act as the example format and as a gesture of fairness.
Any thoughts on any of the rules will be appreciated
