1. With your first full season now in the books what are your thoughts of the league currently?
So far it feels pretty classic NBN. I’ve been gone for a bit, but the dynamics still feel about the same which makes me feel like I just came back home to a bunch of old friends, with some new faces of course.
It’s also always fun trying to gauge which players are the real deal and which are putting up inflated / fake stats when trying to take over a new team, so that part is still underway as well.
2. You look to be fully tanking now, what are your expectations for the next 3 seasons?
My goal is to try and put up some infrastructure to be ready to compete around when Sarunas arrives from his euro trip. I would ideally love to tank harder and scoop up one more top prospect but Kiyan scoring explosion and the performance of Asprilla and the rest of my young squad are keeping me in the playoff picture so far, which is fun to watch. But I’ll gauge the performances of everyone over the next few weeks and see who I want / need to trade at the deadline to correct course one way or another. So all in all, I’m staying water and trying to steer the ship whichever way makes the most sense at each turn.
3. Who do you think will win West and East and who do you think will win the title this year?
It’s hard to count out the Kings out west, after they just won an impressive title and retained the core roster while rolling to a great 12-2 start to the year, so I’m taking them as my western champ.
Out east it looks like a true gauntlet and really anything could happen, but I think my early season favorite is the Orlando Magic. They’re on a roll, winning 9 of 10 on the backs of Xavian Lee’s white hot 35PPG start to the season.
If it comes down to those two rosters, I think I’m going to have to take the Kings. I think Lee is going to have to stop Fox to get the title, and it could be changing of the guard if the Magic can pull it off, but I’ll stick with the reigning champs for now.
4. What are your thoughts of this upcoming draft? Do you like whos in it? Who are you looking to draft?
I definitely like the looks of the next few upcoming draft classes. It looked to me like it’s a lot of legendary (real life / NBN version) big men for the most part. Guys like Shaq, Wilt, Mourning, Boozer, Mutumbo, etc and then a few perimeter guys like Sprewell and Stockton, Mashburn, Kukoc.. this could be a fun medley of known talent coming through and I don’t even know who I would want specifically. As long as I can get ONE of these guys I’ll be nostalgic and happy. But I did have a good prior run with Carlos Boozer back in the day, so he could be a sneaky favorite for me, despite hating him in real life lol
5. What do you think Kiyan Anthony's ceiling will be? Do you think he's playing like this because theres no other scorers or is he just that good?
This question has been perplexing me for the last 12-14 hours since the scoring showcase he put on. It’s really hard to believe that he went from taking 10-12 shots per game and averaging an efficient 15PPG to suddenly take 30 shots and shooting 60% to average like 55. I would kill several babies for this to just be the new status quo for Kiyan, but I imagine he’s going to come back down to earth a bit this sim. It is true that my team is devoid of elite scorers though, so in theory he should be getting the green light to fire away, and I hope he takes advantage and can keep producing at 25ppg or so… but I have my doubts lol
6. If you could trade for one player in the league right now who would it be and why?
I think personally I would want to trade for Oscar Schmidt, probably for the wrong reasons. He was the last superstar I won a title with (along with Cousy) in a prior NBN timeline, so he has a special spot in my heart for that. It would also line up nicely with my Sarunas arrival, allowing me to tank a little bit and build up the roster with those two sitting on ice, and unleash them together when the time comes.
7. I wasn't part of NBN1 or NBN2 and I'm not sure if you were or not but if you were, from what you've seen so far how does this league compare or doesnt compare to the other versions up to this point?
Well so far, as I said earlier, the vibes are just as classic NBN for the league members and such, which feels familiar, just with different people bickering about the same stuff, etc.
But as far as the league itself, it does feel a little different so far, given that we are still fairly new here with modern rosters after years of juggling mostly NBA legends around (with much smaller contracts), and the absence of the G League in this version is a little disappointing since 2nd round picks are all but useless now…but really nothing ever came from that and it was a ton of extra work for the commissioners.. so probably for the best there.
8. Out of everyone on your roster, who would you like to meet in real life and why?
I would probably want to meet my rookie PG Yuki in real life just to see his size on the court. I feel like it would be wild to see him in person and then get to see him step out there, lace up, and just run an offense at 5’6”. Beyond him, I don’t think my team has any interesting personalities that I would want to make time to meet.
9. If you had to trade rosters with someone in the league who would it be and why?
I would probably pick the Magic. There’s something exiting about Xavian Lee’s game that has had my attention since I joined, and then pairing him with Chet and Ant is just a fun big 3 in their prime who I would enjoy working with.
10. Are you playing any video games currently? if no why not?
The only game I’ve been able to make time for lately is NBA 2K24. I have a franchise going with the Nuggets in maybe 2008 or so in the game built around young Kevin Durant Brandon Roy, Rondo, and prime KG that’s been a lot of fun. But as an adult it’s hard to make time to play as consistently as I could 5-10 years ago, but I would love to get back into a FPS like Halo to get my anger out on random people.
