Yourkers: hey man how's it going?
Let's start this with why are you going the rebuilding route this year? Talk about the protection on your pick you traded. How'd you come to that conclusion? Now onto how you pulled the Nets pick away from the warriors for what I consider bench pieces? Talk us through those talks.
rip: heyyy, all is going well man, hbu? I see you bout to watch Nets/Nuggets, how excited are you?
I feel like we don't have the PG yet to fully compete and since I already have built this entire team through the draft besides JaKobe Walter, I feel like that is where I am going to find my PG. I've done well in drafts up to right now and have also done well tanking when I try to tank, its also nice that I am in the East.
For my trades for my protected pick I just felt like I'm either gonna be a top 5 pick or somewhere between 15-29, it wont be in the middle I think, so if its not top 5 or top 10 even rather, I probably would just wanna ship it for 3k anyway and have money to continue camping my players. As for Rowe, I don't know what Warriors were thinking besides getting rid of these 2 shit contracts but Rowe did average 28/8 in round 1 of playoffs last year and Toohey will always be a little valuable because he can backup the 1.
How about you though? Do you think MIntz and AJ have what it takes to win a title right now with a lot of young players and no real defensive bigs? What are your expectations this year?
Yourkers: I think Mintz and AJ are a perfect 1-2 punch but I might lack the supporting cast to win a title this year. Feel DC is a year away from being the force i see him to be and not sure Carrington is the guy at PG but I love what he can bring to the table. I feel next year when our young players take that next step we will be ready to win it all. But I still feel we win the central division. Feel this team is good enough to win the division and then once the playoffs hit anything is possible. But I am happy with the overall core and maybe we need to bring in a shot blocker to help but not easy to find.
Do you plan on moving Walter since he isn't a drafted piece? What are your expectations for Gaze and Boozer? Anyone you are looking forward to drafting in the next couple of drafts?
rip: Yes I was just thinking about it lately, I might be in the hunt to move him if I can find a better SG. Definitely have something like Walter/Knega/Nets pick for an upgrade at SG but If I don't find one I won't mind keeping him, he was a DJ Wagner mentor so thats why I've even been keeping him. I'm really high on Gaze/Boozer just as high as I am with anybody else that I drafted. After spending 5k+ in camps all the rookies almost feel like my babies and tough to give away. If I can get Boozer some potg's in the next 2 seasons we will be hot. I really would love to fix my PG situation with the picks I currently own so if theres one with my pick if its top 5, or if Nets can be a decent pick, I will be looking to improve my PG forsure, maybe someone like Gary Payton
Do you see yourself moving Mintz or AJ at all or do you think those 2 will be in Toronto for a while? What do you think is your weakest point on the roster? Who do you think has the best chance at winning the title this year?
Yourkers: I would like to say yes I plan to keep mintz and AJ around for awhile but with how I operate it's hard to guarantee that. If the right type of deal were to come along I would have to really consider it. But as of right now I am not looking to move them. Just feel it's hard to find elite SF and SG in this league so you have to keep them when you have them. Now as for my weakness I will go at PG. Carrington might not be the right guy to run the show due to his turnover issues. I know it's early but that number is not what I like to see. If you're not an elite passer you shouldn't be turning the ball over over 4 times a game. Just not healthy for a successful team.
For the teams that could win it all i will go with the magic unless he really breaks it down. If he wants to switch it up he will probably do so in the way to be out of the running which leaves me with the celtics. They have a lot of elite players on their team and plenty of depth. Wifh SJ and Stockton being on their rookie contracts they are going to be a force for a long time coming.
Who would you say is your best drafted player? Do you think rog will really trade Lee and the best contract ever signed? Now onto some real life stuff. Do the Lakers have a chance to win the title this year or what moves do you think they need to make to get there?
rip: My best drafted player... this is tough... I know its probably DJ Wagner but I really really hate that I didn't focus on defense starting with that draft. Scoring wise def its Wagner but, Dwayne Aristode I think has to be the best player I have drafted up to right now, hes not even at his full form yet. I think its early in the season but Rocco Zikarsky is looking scary as well. I think knowing Rog he will trade Lee because sometimes trading is just way more fun than standing pat, its almost an addiction we got and that addiction leads me to believe Lee will be dealt for some fun players, just gotta wait and see who. As far as for the Lakers IRL, I THINK LAKESHOW IS BACK!!! I don't think they need any trades right now but if they do, bringing in someone like Jonas V for cheap, or someone for cheap for extra defense/rebounding wont hurt. Wouldn't mind moving Dlo for a big like Jarrett Allen but not needed, if Reaves/Rui continue their elevated play like they have so far this season Lakers should be a force this year to win it all.
What are your thoughts on our teams sim 1 performances? and what are your thoughts on some of the other teams? Who do you think has a good chance of winning it all this year? Also how much fun did you have at the Nets/Nuggets game? I saw you were pretty close too
Yourkers: Much what i expected outside of Mintz struggling to shoot again come season start. I have a turnover issue with Carrington as my PG so it's time to see if James can run the show and be more effective. I love what AJ has been doing and wish his turnovers were less but I think that will come with time. As for other teams I realize the East will always be stacked for years to come and you really have to be smart about how you assemble your team. Can't really build a one day team and be good. It takes some time. As for the game yeah I was in section 8 row 17. Great seats. Got them from a guy in the company I work for as he knows someone who gives away tickets. They fell in my lap and I got to enjoy a great overtime game.
So we are in a 2k league. How do you feel that is going and do you wish we had more teams? Now you are 6-1 and very unexpected. What do you think is the reason for this good start? Can you keep up this start?
rip: I love our 2k league, yes I wish there would be more people but its fun as it is with just the couple that we have, building super teams is fun. As for my team in NBN, honestly....... Even though everyone is saying its a fluke, I don't see how it is. First lets start with Taran, yes he is averaging 5 turnovers a game BUT, he is also averaging 3 steals per game so in reality, thats 2 turnovers. My team is playing right now as the best shooting, best 3 point shooting, and best defense in the league and its shows. I have 3 players averaging at least 19, my center is averaging 14/14/3, my PF rookie is averaging 11/9 and then you add another 15ppg coming out of my rookie bench player and than add Aday Mara who is on the bench killing other bench players. As much as I wanted to get a top 5 pick, I hate to say it but I think my team is here to play. If you ask me why we are playing so well, I'd have to say its Armstrong. He is averaging 20ppg as a non option and has elite defense. Look at the PG shooting % in all 7 games we've played.
Today is halloween, any plans tonight or for the holiday season any plans of travel November - January?
Yourkers: Today I am at work so no plans for Halloween. I'll be stuck here enjoying that work life. As for anything upcoming I'll be going on a wrestling cruise for my birthday that's late January and early February. So outside that pretty much chill and maybe something will pop up here and there but work and my xbox have my attention.
Last questions for you. Did you live up to any of your new years resolutions? Also you have been doing well on the gm hunt. How have you been able to find so many gms to join?
rip: Wrestling cruise sounds intense lol. No new years resolution for me, time flies too fast at age 35, its like a 5 year resolution now. As for GMs, I used to run sim leagues for 10-15 years and have a lot of peoples contacts from the past. Thanks for the talks though as usual, enjoyed them, have a great rest of your week!
