1. With Season 9 officially beginning, what are your expectations after going 0-3?
-We're an obvious lotto team, which I am hoping for. I reset the roster after finally having my pick this season, so really want to get some fresh new faces in the franchise. I'll admit, before last season, I didn't plan on going full rebuild and being this bad, but after getting that offer for Baba, it changed things drastically. I don't want to be rebuilding for the next 3+ seasons, so hopefully this is just a quick turnaround.
2. You made some interesting trades for both Penny Hardaway and Ralph Sampson this offseason, what are you hoping for them to be 3-4 seasons from now?
- Well, I hope that Penny is the franchise PG I've been looking for since the start of the new league and hope that Ralph provides much needed defense and rebounding down low. I was really happy to make the move for Penny and cashed in on those picks from the Baba deal. He has a turnover issue right now, but have a plan to fix that over the course of the next 3 seasons. Ralph had some really nice scouts, so that was another moved I was pumped about. Coming away with those 2 guys from the draft is exciting.
3. Do you think this will be more than a 1 year tank or will you try to compete next year?
- Haha didn't even see this question when I answered it above, but I don't want to be tanking for multiple seasons. I have ample cap space next year, so maybe I can snag a nice player or 2 in free agency. I won't rush it, though, so if this takes more than 1 season, then that is fine.
4. Who do you think needs to take the extra step in order for your team to play better?
- Well I don't really want to play better so I just want to see my young guys develop. Have 2 really fun prospects and then maybe some other guys who could be nice assets down the road. Corbett is a really nice scorer and Mobley is an elite defender, so I wouldn't be surprised if one or both of them are moved during this season.
5. You seem to be looking to tank but still have Evan Mobley, why do you think its been so difficult to move him and what are you actually looking to acquire for him?
- The nice thing about Mobley is he's not really moving the needle one way or the other. He's a top tier defender, but he doesn't do much offensively, so he's not helping me win games. I'm looking for 2 shitty firsts, which I haven't been able to get, so I'm going to hang onto him. I think it's been difficult because his contract is pretty big and expiring, so who wants to move off 2 firsts for a possible rental. Plus, he's an awesome mentor, so nice to have when I plan to draft.
6. My New York Knicks went 4-1 in sim 1, do you think we might actually be good or is it a fluke?
- Think it's definitely a fluke, no offense. The team isn't set up to win right now and the East is good, so I'd expect losses to pile up. You also played 4 bad teams and 1 good team and lost to the good team.
7. My LA Lakers in real life are currently 3-1, do you think Lakeshow are back or is it a fluke?
- I wouldn't say it's a full on fluke, but I don't think they're a title contender. Reddick has the guys playing tough right now, but think the lack of talent around AD and LeBron will show as the season wears on, especially if either of them misses extended time. Do think they're a seed 4-6 type playoff team, though.
8. Who do you think currently has the best chance to win the championship in NBN this year and why?
- Don't see how it's not the Magic still. They have the same roster that just won, so why would things change? Think the Sixers are good and Celtics could surprise people. Out West, I really just think that the Grizz, Kings, and Jazz have a shot. Rest of that conference blows.
9. Which team do you think will be a force in the league in the next 2-3 years that isn't a force already?
- I actually really like how things have shaped out for Leflop and the Heat. He has made questionable moves, but most of his prospects will be coming over in the next season or two, plus he just signed Arenas to a big deal. If they get a PG in this upcoming draft, they have a really fun team. Arenas had a nice TC and looks to be worth the contract right now. If he gives you 25+ ppg on good percentages, this team could be awesome in a few years.
10. With us fully into retro now, who is your favorite retro player yet to enter the league and why?
- Tracy McGrady. He's my favorite player of all time, so I'm excited to see him come into the league.
11. Boston Celtics (naterade) won GMOTY last season, who do you think is in the early running this season?
- Maybe between Slough and Spike. Both teams were bad last year and made some moves to change that this upcoming season. Not sure I think either are winning the title (sorry slough), but their rosters could win enough games to get the GMOTY crown.
