1. With Season 9 officially beginning, what are your expectations after going 2-1?
Expect to be around 4-5 ganes worse than last year, or a bottom seeded team in the West. Thing haven't exactly worked out with the Kessler/Okpara pairing and this season I'll have considerably worse scoring without Jalen Green factoring into the equation. I've still got to camp Vernon Maxwell, Damon Stoudamire, and Darius Acuff Jr., so maybe a boost comes.
2. Do you plan on making any moves this season or stay pat?
I might try something if I can avoid giving up anymore draft capital. With the Okapara and Haliburton contracts becoming more and more expensive along with Maxwell, Acuff Jr., and Stoudamire all soon due for a resigning I'll need to be attentive to how I manage the cap.
3. Tyrese Haliburton is now 31 years old, do you plan to keep him until he retires even though you have 2 other really good PGs?
I'm actually considering a trade for him now this season and possibly move on to the Stoudamire era, problem would be the drop on defense, higher turnovers, and lesser scoring. Would be easier to go through with if I had my pick next year. Also considering Haliburton provides that +5 potential mentor, I'd like to acquire another promising PG prospect or two before moving off of him. I do favor the odds of me moving him next offseason at the latest.
4. Who do you think needs to take the extra step in order for your team to play better?
Probably Vernon Maxwell, he had a pretty good preseason, averaging +20ppg in both sims. So maybe this 1st reg. season sim was simply a bad one. But if I could get him there and have Bane average around 18 with 13ish off the bench from Stoudamire, I'd feel better about the team. Ignoring quantity though, I'd really just like some efficient shooting.
5. 2 Centers, 2 SGs, 3 PGs, thats your entire team, do you think you need to fix your team?
I need another more prominent rebounder/inside score, and addtional depth at SF. Rebounding has the been one of our banes of existence the past two seasons. I know I've said Kessler + Okpara hasn't worked too well, but the differential between RPG and oRPG has decreased significantly. Problem is though we don't get enough points between the two. In fact I'd go as far to say the team felt better when it was Okpara and Ngongba II, even though we were getting out rebounded by like 6 boards a game.
6. What are you hoping Damon Stoudamire will look like 2-3 seasons from now?
Probably a slighty less efficient version of Haliburton. I don't see upper 20's scoring in store, but maybe something like 24ppg 10apg with 7rpg. He'll 100% turn the ball over more, but if I can keep that number down to aomething like 2.2TOPG, I'd be happy. I do think he's better suited to be a triple-double machine, but I'm certain his defense will leave me disappointed.
7. My New York Knicks went 4-1 in sim 1, do you think we might actually be good or is it a fluke?
Even with the statement of tanking I can't see how this team doesn't finish around 38-42 win range. But yeah, I'd lean more towards fluke, I don't think this team keeps shooting .456. The big advantage or in your case disadvantage is having players like Rocco and Mara in the frontcourt. Good rebounding and post defense will help you steal games.
8. My LA Lakers in real life are currently 3-1, do you think Lakeshow are back or is it a fluke?
Honestly too early to tell. I do like that they've moved on from being Lebron centric. Kinda crazy that people have been placing on a late 30's dude for not carrying the team the past couple of seasons. I get that maybe his ego plays a role in that, but still. My big hangup still is that we don't know what J.J Reddick is as a coach yet. As games get played teams will be able to collect more and more accurate information, so when the the team hits a wall defensively or offensively, can he make the correct adjustments?
9. Who do you think currently has the best chance to win the championship this year and why? (NBN and NBA)
Magic in the NBN is the obvious choice. I refuse to pick the Celtics in the NBA, not even hate, but I think they'll become to attached to their playstyle to simply prove a point and if they go cold in the playoffs they'll be upset by probably the Heat lol. I think I'm gonna role the dice between the Mavs or Thunder.
10. Which team do you think will be a force in the league in the next 2-3 years that isn't a force already? (NBN and NBA)
NBN would have to be the Celtics, they have a young duo in Stockton and Sarunas with Boozer and Asprilla already locked up. If they could build some depth like the Magic and maybe find a legit SF offensive weapon with rebounding, I don't know if they'll go on a run like the Magic or 76ers, but they'll be a force.
In the NBA would have to say the Mavs and Thunder of course, I' imagine San Antonio would have to make their way at some point. I don't currently think much of the Rockets, but its a shame that the Thunder isn't in the Southwest Division. That'd set up for some fun interstate rivarlies. In the East you'd have to like the Magic. I also like the Pacers, but jeez that team needs defense. I know another team that media wants everyone to worship would be the Ant led Twolves, but I think that KAT trade so late in offseason will be the franshise breaker. He's probably elsewhere when his contract ends.
11. With us fully into retro now, who is your favorite retro player yet to enter the league and why?
I'm not near old enough to actually know retro players. So idk give me Kareem? I could certianly use that mix of rebounding and offense.
12. Boston Celtics (naterade) won GMOTY last season, who do you think is in the early running this season?
Gotta like the Suns odds this season. But another possible team to keep an eye on would be the Twolves, if they could land a big loke they want to, that Cunningham and Wagner pick up could all come together really nicely for them.
