1. With Season 9 officially beginning, what are your expectations after going 4-1?
I’m expecting to compete for a title again. I was 1 missed shot away from the Finals last year before losing to the eventual champs and I think my team is better this season. Hoping to extend my 50+ win streak to 9 seasons.
2. With Tyrese Maxey being 30 now, is it safe to say he will be a Sixer for NBN life?
Probably. I think the window to trade him for max value is probably closed and, at this point, it might just be more fun to try to compete his whole career to see if I can get him another title. Worst case scenario, he declines and I have one of the best mentors to build my next PG.
3. You made a nice deal to acquire Lauri Markannan during the offseason, do you think he is the reason to your teams good start?
I think we were going to be good regardless but Lauri adds more scoring that I needed to keep up with the Magic. I like the defense and rebounding of the Lively/ Olbric pairing but I needed some scoring from my bigs and I think I match up better now.
4. Who do you think needs to take the extra step in order for your team to play even better?
I’ll need Olbric to step it up. He looked really good at the end of last year, getting his stocks up to really nice averages in the back half of the year and showing potential to become an elite rebounder. That hasn’t panned out so far in the first 9 games.
5. I may have asked you this in the past but, if ever, do you plan to tank here or do you think you will just ride the winning wave?
I’ll probably have to tank eventually but it’s been a fun challenge trying to stay a title contender as long as I have. I think I’ve been in the mix for a title every season despite changing everyone out except Maxey. In the past, I’ve generally gone all out for a season or two and tear it down, so it’s been fun.
6. My New York Knicks went 4-1 in sim 1, do you think we might actually be good or is it a fluke?
Well, you’re 6-1 now but I just don’t see it lasting. The defense should be good but I just don’t see how you can overcome 5 turnovers from your starting PG and not really having a leading scoring option.
7. My LA Lakers in real life are currently 3-1, do you think Lakeshow are back or is it a fluke?
I figured they’d be better with a new coach but they have one of the best offenses in the league right now. I still have trouble trusting AD for a full healthy season and LeBron looks like he’s slowed down a little, so I think they’ll improve from last season but not to a championship level.
8. Who do you think currently has the best chance to win the championship this year in NBN and why?
I think it still has to be the Magic until he makes the big trades he’s been teasing. They somehow got a better big man on an MLE, brought back Lee insanely cheap, and his young guys got better. I think I have a good shot to compete with them along with the Grizzlies, Kings, Jazz, and Celtics.
9. Which team do you think will be a force in the league in the next 2-3 years that isn't a force already?
I don’t know if they qualify anymore after their hot start but the Celtics look ridiculous and are really young. Stockton and Sarunas are stars and I was wrong on Boozer. I think they’ll need a shot blocker but they have plenty of assets to figure that out. The Suns are another team I really like. Cassell and Gill need another year but they already have the bigs in place to put together a really nice, young starting 5.
10. With us fully into retro now, who is your favorite retro player yet to enter the league and why?
Whenever we get to Dwyane Wade, I’ll trade my whole team for him. For 90s players, I really like Tim Hardaway, Allen Iverson, and Ray Allen. We’ve had a lot of the big players from the 90s Heat teams I grew up on enter the league recently but I haven’t been able to get them yet.
11. Boston Celtics (naterade) won GMOTY last season, who do you think is in the early running this season?
I think Raptors, Jazz, and Suns. The Raptors added AJ and Carrington while keeping their younger core pieces. Jazz added Luka for pretty cheap but need to make more moves to compete. The Suns added Ja and Belov but kept their top young players.
