The 38th nominee for the NBN Hall of Fame was one of the greatest scorers in league history. Dirk could score from anywhere on the court and will be known as one of the leagues elite scorer. Was he more than that? Did he do enough besides score to be remembered as a legend? Lets take a look.

Arguments For Induction
- Played in seven All-Star games winning an MVP in one of those games. He was also named to three All-League Third, three Second, and two first teams in his career. He also won 3 player of the weeks and a player of the month, which is incredibly impressive for a big in FBB.
- Might just be the best overall scorer in league history. Others have done it with better volume but has anyone done it with better efficiency? Dirk scored 26 points a game and shot 46% from the field for his career, even more impressive is the 44.4% career three point percentage. And not many have done it with better volume, heck really only two have as Dirk is 3rd in points all time. His numbers were dragged down even some by his first and last two seasons, in his peak he was good for 28 to 30 points a game. Just absolutely incredible.
- He also wasn't a liability on the boards, even being a plus there at times. He averaged 10.5 for his career and was over 11 five times. He finished his career 6th in rebounds. Thats two top 10 stats for him to fall on.
- Dirk was a solid defender, carrying an A- defense when he retired and always being above B for his career. Combine that with average amounts of stocks and you have a good to great positional defender. Even his stocks weren't bad, he averaged 2.5 stocks a game for his career, and no one ever expected him to be a rim protector so those numbers are pretty solid.
- There isn't much else to be said of Dirk, he was statistically dominant in a number of areas, won a bunch of awards, and always filled his role in an incredible way. He also won a title with the Grizzlies and played in another finals. When you ask the question of "was this player feared and loathed to be played against in the playoffs" the answer is emphatically yes. To deny Dirk would be a travesty.
Arguments Again Induction
- I mean was he anything more than a scorer, even if he was a legendary one? He didn't rebound at a good level, even he wasn't a "liability". Not being a liability doesn't mean you should be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
- Was not a good passer and even though his turnovers were always kept low, his assist to turnover ratio was pathetic. If Dirk got the ball you could guarantee he was going to shoot it, luckily he was pretty good at shooting.
- Oddly he got better defensively as he aged, but he was never a good defender. His best season with the Wizards he carried a B+ rating, seasons before that had a B. Never won any awards for his defense, never got a lot of stocks. Again just because no one expected him to be a rim protector doesn't mean it excuses the fact that this 7 footer couldn't even block 2 shots a game for his team. Pathetic.
- Only two finals appearance? IF he was so good why did the Grizzlies with all that talent only make the finals twice in his career?
- Overall its a tough case to make on a player that has only one even GOOD skill to him and that is putting the ball in the hoop. Sure he was literally legendary at it, but he was a one track player and are we going to say that those guys are Hall of Fame worthy?
Vote carefully, and remember to throw out arguments regardless of which side you're on. This should be a discussion that eventually gets the league to the proper decision on him. Your vote can also be retracted after it's been cast if you feel like switching to the other side based on the arguments that have been made. To be inducted, a player needs 70% and to be considered in a later class they need 50%. Vote carefully!
***BONUS - Don't forget that everyone who votes gets $25 and the person that makes the best argument or contributes to the discussion the best will be awarded an extra $25***
