The 58th nominee of the NBN Hall of Fame, Nene Hilario, is largely thought of as a damn good role playing big on some damn good teams for a long time, but was he more than that? Does he deserve mention among the best of the best or was he just a guy you wanted on your team but wasn't that star that carried you to titles? Lets take a look.

2002 - All-Star Rookie Game Participant
Reasons for Induction
- The biggest thing of all he was the starter on a lot of teams that were always in the picture for the title and his rebounding and defensive abilities were key to those runs. Two of those teams won titles. Nene was a winner through and through.
- His rebounding approached elite levels at times in his careers. I'd say 13 is elite, even in this inflated league at the moment we have only 10 guys averaging 13 plus, but back in 2006? Just three. Nene approached that number five seasons in a row, never breaching it. So he was a great rebounder, not quite elite though.
- While his statistics don't really show it at the level of other guys, he still was doing 3.5 stocks in his prime, his defense was pretty damn elite. Even with somewhat lower blocks, he still showed A defense for like 12 straight seasons, which is pretty damn crazy because that means it was SOLIDLY A, even with the year to year fluctuations it never dipped to A-. Nene was also one of the better thief bigmen in league history as well, always over 1 a game.
- Kind of a weird stat, but super useful, Nene was a pro at drawing fouls averaging around 5.5 a game, but in his prime you could count on 7 to 8 free throws from him a game. That puts serious pressure on the opposing bigs when they got put in foul trouble.
- Overall, a decent scorer, and did some things really well its incredibly hard to argue that Nene didn't mean a lot to the teams he was on that won a lot of games. Good to great player at times, while flawed you could count on him to bring the best he could night in and night out and you can't ask much more from a guy.
Reasons Against Induction
- That all is great and all, but Nene has zero yearly awards and only has 66 player of the games. Sure guards win those at a far higher rate, but man thats abysmal.
- Wasn't even a huge double double rate, getting 585 in 1288 games, which compared to the elite guys like Duncan doing in the 90%s its hard to argue he belongs in the same class as him.
- I mean there just doesn't need to be much said here, its an easy argument to make against him. How do you induct a 12/10/1.5/1 guy into the Hall of Fame? You don't. Not enough awards, no elite statistics, nothing to say this guy was elite. Good player to have, absolutely not a Hall of Famer.
Vote carefully, and remember to throw out arguments regardless of which side you're on. This should be a discussion that eventually gets the league to the proper decision on him. Your vote can also be retracted after it's been cast if you feel like switching to the other side based on the arguments that have been made. To be inducted, a player needs 70% and to be considered in a later class they need 50%. Vote carefully!
***BONUS - Don't forget that everyone who votes gets $25 and the person that makes the best argument or contributes to the discussion the best will be awarded an extra $25**
