The 84th nominee for the NBN Hall of Fame, Brandon Roy, was one of those all around studs that every team needs. He scored well, passed well, rebounded well, and just did it all. Question is, was he great at anything? Does he have one or two things he can claim to make his case as a Hall of Famer? Lets take a look.

Arguments For Induction
- Roy was able to win one title in his career, as a key member of the Charlotte Hornets. He also played in four All-Star games as well as was named to one All-League Third, Second, and First team in his career. He also impressively won a player of the month in his career as a non point guard. Not many of those around in league history outside of Durant.
- First and foremost, Roy might have been the best jump shooter in league history. He finished his career sixth in career three pointers made, which proves his volume. His 43.4% is one of the highest in league history for a guy with his volume. He had multiple seasons over 45%. But it wasn't just his ability to hit from three, he was also a crazy good mid range jump shooter as well, probably among Kevin Durant and Malcolm Brogdon as the league's best ever. And finally among his shooting abilities, he might have the highest free throw percentage among retired players. I'd have to look deeper, but the guy I thought held the record was KD, whose free throw percentage is 91.8%. Roy's is 92.7%. Brogdon holds the record currently, withg 93.7% but he is still active and has yet to hit an age curve.
- Not only did Roy hit threes and was absolutely spectacular at making the shots he took, he took and made a lot of shots overall and is one of the better scorers in league history. His 22 per game average for his career doesn't tell a great story. He is 13th all time in points scored. His career average is down because of his final four seasons, and realistically his final six, where it was obvious that he was still a useful player but obviously not what he once was. He filled a shooters role for those final six years, and it was nice to see him find a niche in the league even at age 36 and beyond, but it did drag his numbers down. He went for 25 points per game or better 8 times in his career, and those were over 9 seasons total, the one year he didn't in that stretch he averaged 23.5 per game for he Raptors.
- Even though his biggest attribute was his scoring, I mean look at those two monsters of paragraphs, he was a really good player in all aspects of basketball. He averaged 4.3 assists per game, but like his points that was dragged down by his last few seasons. In his prime he averaged more than 4.5 assists per game 7 times, and was over 5 or near 5 for several of those seasons. He also was a good rebounder, averaging 6.3 for his career but again, was over 7 several times and always over 6.5 in his prime. Just a great all around player. You could even say he was a solid defender with an A- rating and not averaging over 2 steals.
- The case as a whole adds up to four huge paragraphs, which should sum up pretty well what he was good at and why he should be a pretty easy vote for Hall of Fame. Heck, read the arguments against induction but be considering what team you will vote him in for. Just a fantastic all around player who played for a number of contenders and put up great stats. One of the most pure, and best, shooters that has ever played in NBN. Hes a lock to me.
Arguments Against Indcution
- Hold up. I know we have voters who have award issues, and Roy qualifies. Seriously, four All-Star games and three All-League teams? Thats a bit light isn't it?
- I mean I understand why his career stats are mediocre but the point still stands that he played six years where he wasn't very good and his stats for his career still do not scream Hall of Famer. That counts for something.
- As good as he was at shooting the ball, its kind of a shame he wasn't a 30 points per game scorer like Kevin Durant. I mean he was every bit as good as KD was, he just didn't shoot it enough to get the volume. And he was kind of inconsistent with his scoring, except of course his 8 of 9 stretch. He played 18 seasons and saw every spectrum.
- Not a great defender. He has no awards, wasn't great at stealing and never showed up on the perimeter defenders list. Sure, he could have been solid, but it absolutely is not a case for his induction.
- Overall, you have to wonder how good his case is here. Yes, he was an All-Time great shooter, and a great scorer. But he was just good at everything else and didn't rack up elite counting stats. He was somewhat injury prone, only won one title, and is short on awards. If he is a Hall of Famer, it isn't first ballot is it? Something seems lacking, but its up to you guys to vote.
Vote carefully, and remember to throw out arguments regardless of which side you're on. This should be a discussion that eventually gets the league to the proper decision on him. Your vote can also be retracted after it's been cast if you feel like switching to the other side based on the arguments that have been made. To be inducted, a player needs 70% and to be considered in a later class they need 50%. Vote carefully.
***BONUS - Don't forget that everyone who votes gets $25 and the person that makes the best argument or contributes to the discussion the best will be awarded an extra $25***
