He’s averaging 20 ppg on 39% shooting, he’s going to average 24-25 ppg again this season like he has each season he’s been in the league. 44M isn’t even going to be dabilitating, not to mention the mentoring he offers for a team with youth and likely cap in 3-4 seasons. I get what you're saying but vets are severely undervalued. I'm sure donny isn't getting great offers for Walt who fits the same description and has a better contract and mentor

Im not saying he should net a return of a future star or anything at this point. But to present it as if he has negative value to the point you need to move one of the best players in the league to rid yourself of the contract is totally underselling him IMO.

Not sure the need to move Bird anyway - if you are going to rebuild trade everyone else of value, keep him around to mentor any young bigs that you draft and once he's expiring and you're ready to compete you can unload him then.

Bernard King was towards the end of his career, making more than Bird does now. He went for a solid player + 1st a season ago. I just think he jumped the gun here.

I did reach out on MJ and by no means I will say it was an amazing offer or better, but this just doesn't make sense at all for the Mavs. At minimum you get DC and the rest of it as well. No wonder our talks now Van, touche. Crazy thing is, if Mavs countered with something he likely walks away with Mcgowens plus Wang and a 1st or something for MJ.
Again, I am not one to say my offer was better, I don't like that rhetoric, its up to the gm and what he likes.
I did offer Mcgowens, daugherty, grizz '50 1st which would have added more with some trade talks, but nothing countered. Oh well.

Also Mcgowens is low key quite good and on a very good contract.

I think everyone has been pretty respectful discussing this trade. When a big trade like this happens, I think it is healthy for the league to have this type of discussion. It's probably more the toll from the past two weeks that has frustrated some, and just a bit of a hassle for Silver to read through lots of pages and come to a decision.
I still think the trade is bad but now remembering my first vetoed trade as a new GM, trading a high lotto for The Professor, this is nowhere close so I am also okay if this doesn't go to the committee.

Its tough as well cause you want to put your own mark on your team too, Sid likely would always have that I came in with MJ and Bird, so didn't really build his team type of thing. I just think he should have got DC on the deal, would have made it better.0
